Council District 7 Newsletter
August 17, 2018 - In This Issue:
Dear Friends and Neighbors

This past Saturday, I held a Dumpster Day at Daniel Lairon Elementary School in the Seven Trees neighborhood. We had over 200 residents help fill 10 dumpsters with debris that would have ended up on the streets. We collected included: paint, tires, furniture, mattresses and other household items. In addition, we had neighborhood leaders drive through the neighborhood to pick up items that were illegally dumped. I would like to thank all of our volunteers who came and assisted families in unloading their items, direct traffic, and check in. This is the third dumpster day in the district with many more clean-up efforts to come. As a reminder, San Jose residents with junk can call their recycling company to get rid of their large items for FREE.

Saturday then continued, with a fun Summer Festival in the district at the VACC in the George Shirakawa Center. We had hundreds of happy kids and families enjoying cultural festivities with a variety of games, resource booths, and performances. I want to thank our partners for working with my office to host this great event.

Lastly, join me this Saturday, August 18, as I unveil a new crosswalk at the corner of Alma and Sanborn Ave starting at 12:30pm. I will be joined by Councilmember Raul Peralez and staff from the Department of Transportation. The new enhanced crosswalk includes three beacon lights and a pedestrian safety island to increase visibility and ensure pedestrian safety. Hope you can join me to celebrate this special day in the district.

I f you have any questions, concerns or suggestions on how we can improve our community, feel free to contact me at  (408) 535-4907  or email me at  district7@sanjoseca.gov.

Sincerely,
