Council District 7 Newsletter
August 31, 2018 - In This Issue:
Dear Friends and Neighbors

We had another successful dumpster day event at Dahl Elementary School with more than 110 participants who filled 10 bins with junk. These events are very important to me because it greatly helps with the illegal dumping in our streets. And it also allows my office to inform residents about city resources that are available such as the Large Item Pick Up program, aimed to deter illegal dumping. I would like to thank our dedicated volunteers, my staff and our wonderful neighbors for participating and helping to keep our community clean. We will be hosting another dumpster day in the McLaughlin-Senter-Ramblewood neighborhood next week. I also would like to remind you that if you have any large items that you would like to get rid of, you can schedule your FREE unlimited large item for pick-up.

Join us! On Monday, September 10th, I am hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony for two new streetlights at the corner of La Ragione Avenue and Tully Road, at 6pm. This project, in addition to installing two new streetlights, also upgraded three existing LED light fixtures to higher power at the intersection. These improvements increase visibility, promote road safety for drivers and pedestrians, and discourages theft and crime. I want to thank the McLaughlin Corridor and Senter Monterey neighborhood associations for working with my office to get these new streetlights installed. I look forward to seeing you there.

Also, please save-the-date for the District 7 Townhall Meeting that will be held on Monday, September 24 at the Tully Library, from 6pm-7:30pm. Several city departments including Caltrans will be there to address concerns and answer questions from residents. I encourage you all to email my office at district7@sanjoseca.gov with your questions to ensure we get all the appropriate staff to participate. I look forward to hearing from you.

Lastly, City Hall and other government offices will be closed on Monday, September 3 in observance of Labor Day. The Police and Fire Departments, along with other critical City services, will remain unaffected by the closure.

PROGRESS ALONG COYOTE CREEK

Last June, the water district board of directors approved expediting and extending a flood protection project along Coyote Creek. A year later, water district staff are working expeditiously on a planning study which will result in a problem definition report this fall.

The planning study has already yielded some immediate actions such as the design and construction of two flood barriers between the creek and Rock Springs neighborhood to prevent intrusion of water during a storm of similar intensity that caused last year's historic flood. These barriers reduce flood risk without redirecting flows to another area downstream and threatening other neighborhoods.

For more information on the effort to protect Coyote Creek from future flooding, visit https://valleywaternews.org
