Council District 7 Newsletter
Septembet 21, 2018 - In This Issue:
Dear Friends and Neighbors

On Saturday, September 8, I hosted our 5th dumpster day of the year at Windmill Springs Elementary School. It was a successful turn out with 150 participants who filled 13 bins with junk that otherwise would end up in our streets. I know it doesn't solve the issue of Illegal dumping in our city but it is another way to empower people to help keep trash out of our neighborhoods as well as being able to inform residents about city resources that are available, such as the Large Item Pick Up program, aimed to deter illegal dumping. I would like to thank our dedicated volunteers, my staff and our wonderful neighbors for participating and helping to keep our community clean. I look forward to hosting more Dumpster Days in the coming months.

This Monday, September 24, I look forward to seeing you at the District 7 Townhall meeting from 6:00pm-7:30pm, Tully Library, Community Room, 880 Tully Road.  We will have staff from various city departments (Housing, Police, Transportation, Parks), Caltrans, California Highway Patrol, Union Pacific and the Santa Clara Valley Water District, to address concerns and answer your questions. If you cannot attend, you can email your questions and concerns to: district7@sanjoseca.gov. See you on Monday night.

Also, Viva CalleSJ is this Sunday, September 23, from 10am-3pm. Six miles of San Jose city streets will be turned into an urban park for the day for our neighbors to walk, bike, skate and explore. The route will stretch from the Sofa District to the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds and through Monterey Road to Martial Cottle Park. Activities will include live music, food trucks, and resource fairs. For more details, click here.

Lastly, join us for the Mid-Autumn Moon Festival on Saturday, September 29, from 3pm-7pm at the Vietnamese American Cultural Center at the George Shirakawa Community Center. The moon festival is traditionally celebrated by the Vietnamese and Chinese cultures. It is a time to celebrate the harvest season and be reunited with family and friends while enjoying mooncakes and watching the moon, a symbol of harmony and unity. We will have plenty of activities for all to enjoy such as lion dancers, lantern contest and parade, music, arts, crafts and so much more. We hope to see you there!

If you have any questions, concerns or suggestions on how we can improve our community, feel free to contact me at (408) 535-4907 or email me at district7@sanjoseca.gov.

Sincerely,

Tam Nguyen
