New York, NY-Following today's joint oversight hearing on the Bill de Blasio Administration's Vision Zero Action Plan to improve street safety in New York City, Transportation Committee Chair, Ydanis Rodriguez had this to say:

"We started a conversation today that has been a long time coming for New York City. After hearing from members of the de Blasio administration, its evident we have clear path before us in steps to limit deaths caused by traffic crashes. The next steps will involve all New Yorkers as we push for greater responsibility and accountability on our streets. For our part, we will take the recommendations from the many panels who testified and work to draft impactful legislation to keep our city safe.

I specifically want to highlight the courage and dedication of the members of Families for Safer Streets whose testimony struck right at the core of the issue, the imperative to save lives. The bravery shown by so many parents, siblings, spouses and family members tragically affected by traffic violence demonstrates clearly the price of inaction.

We at the Council will continue to work with the administration to educate the public, lobby for needed legislation at the state level and ensure that Vision Zero is implemented in a timely fashion to put an end to avoidable deaths on our streets."
