Council Member Travis Appointed Vice Chair of the Council Committee on Economic Development and Selected to Represent the City of Houston on the Houston-Galveston Area Council Board
On Monday, Mayor Turner announced council committees for the next two years. Council Member Travis was selected as vice chair of the new Economic Development Committee, which will review matters relating to economic development, domestic and international trade, business and job creation and aviation. Council Member Travis looks forward to working with the committee chair, Vice Mayor Pro Tem Jerry Davis, on these and other important issues facing our city.
In addition, Council Member Travis was selected to serve on the following committees: Budget and Fiscal Affairs and its Subcommittee on Debt Financing and Pensions; Ethics, Elections and Council Governance; Public Safety and Homeland Security; and Transportation, Technology and Infrastructure.
In addition, today Council Member Travis was selected by City Council to fill At-Large Position Two on the Houston-Galveston Area Council Board of Directors for a one year term to expire December 31, 2016. After his selection, Council Member Travis told Council, "I look forward to working on the many issues affecting Houston and the surrounding 13-county region. Greater regional cooperation is key-especially in areas like transportation, mobility, workforce development, public safety and emergency and disaster planning. In these lean times, with public dollars stretched so thin, it's more important than ever to gain efficiencies through working together. I hope to represent the city well by being an active and engaged member of the board." Council Member Travis thanks Mayor Sylvester Turner and his colleagues on City Council for their support.
