Important Notices & Updates
Radon Gas Home Safety
Many thanks to those who have shared their recent experiences testing their home for radon gas, with some saying their readings were off the charts. Radon is a serious issue which is long overdue in acknowledging. I encourage everyone to learn more about radon gas and how you can test your home.

Hamilton Public Health Services conducted a study of radon gas levels in residential homes in Waterdown/Flamborough/Hamilton that did show some areas with higher than acceptable levels. Last Fall, Council approved radon testing equipment to be a requirement for all new construction builds going forward - read more about the residential construction requirements for Radon Gas mitigation.
Climate Change Action Plan

A few highlights of accomplishments and ongoing efforts towards our Climate Change Action Plan:

  • Flamborough Park wetland restoration project in partnership with Halton Conservation
  • Retrofitted six pumping stations and two outstations (Waterdown) with high efficiency motors to reduce energy consumption and GHG emissions in 2020
  • In 2020, 12,218 trees were planted city-wide along streets, parks, cemeteries and other naturalized areas
  • Hamilton was designated (in 2020) as the 39th “Bee City” in Canada, recognizing the City and community partners efforts to protect pollinators.
  • New Community Energy and Emissions Plan, our pathway towards meeting Flamborough / Hamilton’s future energy needs and reducing GHG emissions:
  • Earlier this year, The City and Enbridge Gas announced the first renewable natural gas (RNG) fuelled bus in Ontario, making @HSR the first public transportation authority in Ontario to use RNG, to transport customers.
