Welcome to the October edition of ENEWS. There are important notices and updates to share with you this month, including Virtual Public Meetings for the Waterdown Secondary Plan and the Waterdown Transportation Management Plan, the latest Waterdown Bypass map with updated timelines, Waterdown Memorial Park washroom closures and more.

This October, enjoy delicious, local Flamborough Chili Fest specials all weekend long at participating restaurants and businesses October 23 - 25 in support of the Flamborough Women's Resource Centre (FWRC). In the event of provincial COVID-19 changes, please do take out Chili to support FWRC.

Congratulations to all Waterdown Blooms Winners and 2020 Digital Trillium Award recipients - thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to our beautiful Flamborough communities.

Waterdown Scarecrow, Treat and Pet Walk

When: October 9 - October 31, 2020

Where: Waterdown Village

The Scarecrows are back! Look for more than 70 scarecrows, 10 Scavenger Hunt clues and Bonus Treat Walk clues at participating businesses for chances to WIN great prizes! Vote for your favourite scarecrow to enter the draw for 1 of 2 $200 Shopping Spree prizes, decorate a scarecrow at HOME & DM (direct message) photos to @waterdownbia Facebook or Instagram to enter for a BONUS $150 Shopping Spree prize and much more. Drummond Manor Community Farmers' Market

When: Saturdays Until October 17, 2020

Time: 8:00 am - 1:00 pm

Where: Drummond Farms/Drummond Manor, 69 Concession 5 Road East, Waterdown

Come join the community at Drummond Manor for their Community Farmers' Market. The market will feature seasonal produce, fresh baked goods, specialty products and so much more. The market runs on Saturdays, 8am - 1pm, until October.
Westfield Heritage Village Historical Tours

Where: Westfield Heritage Village, 1049 Kirkwall Road, Rockton, Flamborough

Each Sunday and holiday Monday, everyone is invited to take a self-directed tour that will lead you to a series of six predetermined locations in the village where you will meet with Westfield Heritage Village’s friendly and knowledgeable costumed interpreters. Carefully planned with the most recent recommendations for health and safety in mind, these tours will provide the engaging, informative experiences that Westfield is known for. Step into Westfield’s one-of-a-kind historic architectural environments and learn about life in earlier times and places in Ontario through multi-sensory experiences and demonstrations.
Freelton Lions Friday Night Food Truck Drive-Thru

What: Friday Nights in October

Time: 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Where: Freelton United Church Parking Lot, 10 Douglas Pl, Freelton

Every Friday Night until the end of October the Freelton Lions will be hosting Drive-Thru Food Truck Nights featuring weekly specials that you can take home to the family without leaving your car, hosted by the Freelton Lions Club. Proceeds are distributed to local charities and community projects. Pre-Orders will also be available up to the day before. All COVID-19 protocols will be in place and strictly enforced. Come out and support our community it will be worth the drive.
Connon Nurseries Fall Farmers' Market - Last Day

When: Saturday October 10, 2020

Time: 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

Where: Connon Nurseries, 656 Robson Road, Waterdown

Held in Waterdown, Connon Nurseries is sharing their outdoor space with local farms, growers and food makers for a Fall Farmers' Market! Their final Saturday will be on October 10th - just in time to stock up for your Thanksgiving Dinner! Stuffed Perogies will also have their Food Trailer at this event selling hot dishes for Breakfast and Lunch, plus Frozen Prepared Foods.
Empowerment Webinar - Dream It * Be It - for High School Girls

When: Sunday October 11, 2020

Time: 7:30 pm – 8:30 pm

Do you know a girl in high school who wants to feel empowered and be bold? The Soroptimist Dream it Be it program is open to all girls in secondary school. Invite her to join us online for FREE on Sunday October 11th at 7:30pm to celebrate International Day of the Girl. There is no cost to attend. Registration is open at this link.
Waterdown Secondary Plan Virtual Public Meeting

When: Thursday October 15, 2020

Time: 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Where: Live Virtual Meeting

Staff are holding a live virtual public meeting on Thursday October 15, 2020 from 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm to provide an overview presentation of Phase 2 of the Waterdown Community Node Secondary Plan Study, answer questions and present project materials. Feedback will be used to develop the vision for how the Waterdown core should evolve in the future, and to create specific policies and directions to implement that vision.

Waterdown Autumn Handmade Market and Craft Show

When: Saturday October 17, 2020

Time: 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

Where: Connon Nurseries, 656 Robson Road, Waterdown

The Waterdown Autumn craft show is a go for 2020- shop the outdoor space on Saturday October 17 from 9am - 4pm at Connon Nurseries, 656 Robson Road. This year’s event will feature approximately 25 unique Artisans. Huge thank you to @connonnurseries for sharing your space with us, and supporting the arts at Guy B. Brown.
Waterdown Transportation Management Plan Virtual Public Meeting

When: Wednesday October 21, 2020

Time: 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Where: Live Virtual Meeting

There will be a LIVE virtual public meeting on Wednesday, October 21, 2020, from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm to gather feedback from residents on the Waterdown Transportation Management Plan. The project team will provide an overview presentation of the project and answer your questions. Individuals can participate online or by phone. Pre-registration is required and can be done online.

Visit the project website at the link above anytime from October 14 to November 11, 2020, to view the information display panels. A comment form will be available until midnight on November 11.
Flamborough Volunteer Appreciation Virtual Event

When: Thursday October 22, 2020

Time: 7:00pm

Where: Flamborough Connects (Zoom)

Join Flamborough Connects and local Flamborough agencies, service clubs and organizations in celebrating the communities dedicated volunteers. The evening will include the presentation of the 3nd Annual Senior Volunteer of the Year Award, musical talent, drive by swag bags and door prizes to be won! Tickets can be purchased online. West Avenue Cider House Chili Fest Pop-Up Event

Enjoy delicious cider that's been awarded Best Cider in Ontario for several years running and Chili Fest specials from local vendors at the West Avenue Cider House Chili Fest Pop-Up event Saturday October 24 - Sunday October 25. Running alongside Flamborough Chili Fest, funds raised will go to Interval House of Hamilton in support of the Flamborough Women's Resource Centre. Please help us support the Flamborough women with or without children who experience abuse, violence, human trafficking or trauma. They need you more than ever!
Live Stream: Waterdown Remembrance Day Service

When: Wednesday November 11, 2020

Time: 10:45 am

The Waterdown Legion will be holding a service starting at 10:45 am on November 11 2020, however this service WILL NOT be open to the public to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for our local Veterans. The Legion team will live stream the service. Please check www.waterdownlegion.ca the first week of November for the details.

Although the service is not open to the public, this is a day for Veterans. If any Veteran would like to attend, please contact Bob Thomas (905) 690-8603 [email protected] by noon on November 10 and advise if someone will be accompanying the Veteran.

October Library Events for All Ages


The Hamilton Public Library provides many on-line fun learning resources for all ages. Councillor Partridge encourages your family to visit the link above for some fun learning resources this October, such as activities, online tutoring, print and digital resources for the new school year ahead. Don't forget HPL is waiving all fines on all library materials until December 31, 2021.
Flamborough Women's Support Services

The Flamborough Women’s Resource Centre (FWRC) located in Waterdown is a satellite location of Interval House. Councillor Partridge and staff at FWRC wants all women to know that services are still there for them. In responding to government directives and call to action from the Chief Public Health Officer, we are working hard to protect women and children in crisis to ensure access to their services. Food with Grace Waterdown Food Bank

When: Open Tuesdays

Time: 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Where: Grace Anglican Church, 157 Mill Street N (parking can be accessed from ​182 Main Street N)

Food with Grace Waterdown Food Bank remains open to all in the community, with precautionary restrictions, on Tuesdays from 2-6pm. Please do not arrive before 1:30 pm. Neighbours seeking food assistance will be provided with pre-made bags of food at the entrance door. Thank you to our generous community for their donations.
Flamborough Food Bank

When: Open Wednesdays

Time: 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm; 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Where: Flamborough Food Bank, Carlisle United Church,
1432 Centre Road

The Flamborough Food Bank remains open weekly on Wednesdays 1-3pm and 7-8:30pm. Instead of entering the Food Bank for personal shopping, food is being packed into hampers by 2 volunteers who work 6 feet apart. Hampers are placed near the front door, into carts and then cars. Flamborough Grocery Shopping Service

Flamborough Connects is offering a new service to support community during COVID-19. Flamborough Shops is an affordable grocery shopping service for those who are unable to grocery shop for themselves. Available on a bi-weekly basis, shopping is done by our staff who are required to wear a mask and gloves. Groceries are dropped off at your door to ensure a safe and no contact delivery!
