Happy Halloween, Ward 3!

Hello fellow Ward 3 residents, can you feel the cold breeze? yes, we're definitely feeling the fall and eventually winter. When did the summer go? it was just like yesterday. This month, the council are busy approving important committees and hearings, which can all be seen here - City Council Meeting Minutes. ARPA

This month we're in full gear with our meetings. The second round of ARPA is another major project we're tackling which we will vote any time soon. We have some challenges and successes, but I encourage you to watch previous council meeting videos, here.

October is packed with activities and programs for the public to attend, both in our ward and the whole city.

Some minor change with our team. Our amazing youth intern Abigail Rosario just accepted an internship program with Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley, yay Abigail! We're so proud of her.

Please read my thorough report and more information on how to get involved, below

What a great way to celebrate his birthday by doing community service, and by cleaning up Keaney Park. HAPPY BIRTHDAY Councilor-At-Large Hong Net and thanks to all our volunteers.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Sue Vancelette Walker, Ward 3, Precinct Captain of Precinct 1. Sue was with me since day one, we both love this city and decided to join forces to serve this ward as a group together with other amazing fellow residents. I wish you good health and more blessings in life.

The “Ghost of Goldfish Pond” is up. Make sure to take some photos, or dance with him when you’re in the area. Yes, he moves around. Good work GPA.

Together with Mayor Jared Nicholson, I am proud to represent Lynn and my fellow Lynn Councilors at the Massachusetts Municipal Association (MMA)’s fall series Legislative Breakfast Meeting held here in Lynn. It is cool to be with fellow City Councilors and officials from other towns and cities networking and learning best practices with them. Each year, the MMA hosts a series of meetings in communities across the Commonwealth to give local leaders, legislators, and MMA staff the opportunity to network in an informal setting and learn about and discuss issues of importance at the local and state level..

In honor of the 100th Anniversary of FIRE PREVENTION WEEK this week. I took a side trip (from my trip from Canada to Lynn) to the small and beautiful town of Barton, Vermont, and took a "selfie" of their fire station. You might be wondering what is the significance of this post. I will tell you why...... A colleague of mine on the Lynn City Council Councilor Buzzy Barton is a retired firefighter of close to 30 years with the City of Lynn Fire Department, he is also a resident of Ward 3. I did this because I felt like it would be cool to do something in his honor and to recognize also the men and women of our Lynn Fire Department, and all the firefighters everywhere. #FirePreventionWeek2022

I attended the Italian flag raising at Lynn City Hall. As somebody who is married to a person of Italian descent, it’s an honor to be here and get to experience it.

I am proud to join fellow Lynn officials and community leaders as we celebrate the National Hispanic/Latino Leadership Month at Lynn City Hall today. Congratulations to the recipients of the Lynn Latino Leadership Awards this year.

What an awesome meeting with Selvin Chambers, the new Executive Director of LifeScene program in Lynn whose program gears toward family, youth, and children's service and development. We talk about the possibility of bringing youth interns to Ward 3 and how this organization can help some of the residents of our ward. A tour of the historic Rhodes Chapel at Pine Grove Cemetery Chapel. This is the second time this year the chapel was opened for the public to see. We need to save this landmark for our future Lynners to experience the beauty and history of our city’s past.

CONGRATULATIONS to the newly-elected Aborn Elementary School PTO officers.

What an awesome thing to do during your lunch break, which is to volunteer to build beds for the A Bed for Every Child organization whose mission is to ensure all children have a bed of their own regardless of their family’s income. I am proud to join Lynn Mayor Jared Nicholson and all volunteers and some Lynn residents to help out with this worthy project.

Tonight, I was appointed by Council President Jay Walsh to represent the City Council on the Vision of Lynn Steering Committee. The VISION OF LYNN is the first-ever comprehensive plan for our city. To learn more about this, click this link - lynnincommon.com

International Walk School Day

Early this morning at 7:45am on Oct. 6th, I joined Lynn Public Schools Acting Superintendent Deb Ruggiero, Interim Deputy Superintendent Molly Cohen, Oren Wright, our Lynn Police Department and LPS School Security and Emergency Planning Liaison, and many other volunteers. We came upon the invitation of the fabulous Brickett Elementary School Principal Shirley Albert-Benedict and her team in joining our friends from FedEx to celebrate International Walk to School Day. It's really nice for FedEx to do this as they showed our kids their trucks and explain/show to them how trucks have blind spots and may not always see them. An important educational and cool way to send a message to students and families about street safety. Brickett Elementary PTO #Ward3

NATIONAL GRID MEETING and DISCUSSION

As promised, I am sharing here the documents that National Grid provided us last night during their presentation at the Utilities Committee meeting at the Lynn City Council Chamber. During their presentation, there was no projector so there was no way the public watching on television could see what they were talking about, so here it is. You can click the video https://bit.ly/3SFtDp7 and fast forward to 59:20 to follow the conversation and presentation. Thank you.

Ward 3 entertains our seniors

WARD 3 ENTERTAINS OUR SENIORS: I am proud to join fellow Ward 3 residents Sunil and Michelle as we play ukuleles, run bingo, and sing and entertain them while they’re having lunch.

King's Beach Update

8th Essex State Rep-Elect Jenny Armini and I checked the new signage on King’s Beach this morning. Always an amazing time hanging out with her talking about our ward and other Ward 3 business on the sideline. Thank you to DCR and Save the Harbor / Save the Bay for this project.

Also, Mayor Jared Nicholson regularly updates me on their King’s Beach Steering Committee meetings, most of the progress can be found on the new website created to update the public.

Please bear with the noise, this will only happen for a few days. The bocce ball area will be transformed to all Pickleball court since no one plays bocce anymore.
