Counselor Minute

You’re almost there! The light is at the end of the tunnel of this 2018-2019 school year. Lots of hard work and immeasurable hours have been poured into your work and on your campus as you wrap up this school year. Testing is in full-swing and graduation is around the corner. Hopefully, you are also making some summer plans for relaxation and rejuvenation. We still have some great things going on here at ESC Region 12, and hope to see you soon for resources and a chance to catch your breath before we look toward 2019-2020.

Local Scholarship Opportunities
As you consider expanding AP Computer Science Principles in your district, I wanted to highlight an AP CSP PD scholarship opportunity offered by Code.org in your state that might support your efforts.
Code.org – an endorsed provider of the College Board – provides curriculum and professional development to teachers who are experienced or new to computer science. Applications are now open.
You may want to encourage your schools and teachers to apply for the scholarships .
Teachers participate in a five-day in-person local workshop in the summer before teaching the course, followed by twenty-four hours of in-person or virtual support throughout the academic year, with a one-year commitment to teach the course in an academic year. Additionally, they have access to a robust teacher forum moderated by experienced teachers and facilitators.
Code.org has helped prepare nearly 100,000 elementary, middle, and high school teachers to offer computer science, 98% of whom say they would recommend the program to another teacher. Find out more .
Stellar Counselor

This month’s Stellar Counselor is Sylvia Simpson, of West Ward Elementary in Killeen ISD. Sylvia keeps on her toes as she served her staff and students and is always looking for resources and ways to help them better. Keep up the great work, Sylvia!
