BIB PICK-UP
We'll see you at the
Health & Fitness Expo on Friday or Saturday to pick up your race bib, race shirt, and all-important bus ticket for your ride to your race start (if applicable). The Expo will be held at the Portola Hotel & Spa in downtown Monterey. Pardon the construction next door - it's the future home of our Expo at the Monterey Conference Center.

course Q & A at 12 p.m.;

Bart Yasso, Runner's World "Chief Running Officer," giving an 'insider's view' at 2 p.m.; and Olympian

CARBO UP
Don't miss out on two great parties on event weekend. Our Pasta Party is a blast with great food (including gluten free pasta), chicken, grilled artichokes, fresh fruit, salads, dessert and more, live music, Q&A with the Race Director and raffle prizes. Then, on Sunday, celebrate your finish at our Post Race Party. Both events are held at our host hotel, the
Monterey Marriott. Tickets will be available at the race expo and at the door for $25.
We'll be posting information on our social media channels - Facebook, Twitter and Instagram - through the week. Join the conversation or start your own. Use hashtags

NEW: SUDS AND SWEETS
We welcome two new sponsors this year:
Sierra Nevada Brewing Company will serve three incredible flavors - Summerfest, Pale Ale and Tropical Torpedo - to thirsty finishers after the race. Fo
r the first time we'll be selling beer to spectators as well. Also new: our
Haribo ambassadors - "Happy Participants" - will distribute yummy gummi bears throughout the weekend. And, for the first time, we will be offering beer for sale at the race finish for spectators!
OUR OTHER PARTNERS ARE HERE TO HELP
GU Energy is providing three flavors of gel on the course: strawberry banana, vanilla bean, and salted caramel. Use their
marathon nutrition planner to find out how much GU to use for your projected finish time and #guforit. Remember to NOT dispose of your GU packet in your water cup. We have a whole team of volunteers to separate nutrition package waste for recycling with Terra Cycle. The Big Sur Marathon and GU Energy care very deeply about the environment and the habit of recycling.
Our medical sponsor,
Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula (CHOMP), will provide race day medical assistance. Look for their volunteers at all first aid stations. These stations are stocked with basic first-aid supplies as well as bandages and petroleum jelly to aid with blisters and chafing. They also have a team of cyclists with mobile defibrillators out on our course with immediate assistance. We are grateful to our community hospital for protecting all of our participants!
Although temperatures are typically mild on race day, hydration, electrolytes, and calories will
impact your performance. Training programs recommend using what is provided on race day so you can become familiar with not only flavor but how you metabolize the fuel. You'll be able to hydrate with lemon-lime
Gatorade Endurance and water on our courses. Gatorade Endurance has 2 - 3X the electrolytes of regular Gatorade. Find out where to buy it at gatoradeendurance.com. #formulatedforfarther.
AND FINALLY...
There's still room for your friends and family to sign up for the
12K or
5K. This is a great way for them to be a part of the marathon action and pass time while waiting for longer distance runners to arrive at the finish line. They can register
HERE or at the Expo.
Watch for our Virtual Race Bag to be sent to you next week. Discount offers on future races, local dining and other values will be included.
See you soon!
