A  message from Jodie Moy, member and winner of last year's Reach Beyond! contest...
Finding out that a new yoga studio was coming to Kanata and that my instructor was going to be there was great news for her and her yogi following! Since last January I've had the pleasure of attending several classes and trying new things that the Beyond Yoga Studio and Wellness Centre has had to offer. All of the staff and instructors are so helpful and friendly. I have recommended this studio to many people over the last year and I know that I won't be going anywhere else anytime soon. Thank you all for a wonderful experience this past year!!  It truly is a wonderful space and with new ideas of offerings always changing makes it exciting to see what is coming up next!

Which elements of your personal yoga philosophy do you bring to your classes?
(There are so many elements of yoga philosophy that I try to bring into my classes. These are just two!)
In my classes, whenever I see someone pushing themselves when they should be pulling back, or when I notice that they are fighting whenever they need to let go, I try to incorporate Ahimsa into their practice. Ahimsa translates to non-harming, or non-violence.  Whenever yoga practitioners are forcing their bodies to do things that they are not ready to do, I try to gently remind them to try to listen to the cues that their body is sending them.

What is a twist and why do we find them in every yoga class?
A twist is any yoga pose that involves rotating your spine. Basically, one part of your spine rotates in a different direction than another part of the spine. Twists are some of my favorite yoga postures.  After a long day of sitting at a desk or driving in a crazy snow storm (like the 51 cm we had on Feb. 16), twists can stretch and strengthen the muscles of the back and help create space in the spine to bring it back to a more natural range of motion.  Read more >

A Message from The Kanata Food Cupboard...

Congratulations Beyond Yoga on your one-year anniversary!  Thank you for being so supportive of the Kanata Food Cupboard during the last year.

As we head into 2016, the Kanata Food Cupboard is looking to fill a few Board member vacancies.
