Welcome!

I am thrilled to extend my warmest greetings and introduce myself as the Director of Student Success and Engagement. We're excited to have you join our vibrant and dynamic community of scholars, explorers, and changemakers.

As you embark on this new chapter of your academic journey, I want to assure you that your time at SUNY ESF will be filled with endless possibilities, growth, and unforgettable experiences. College life offers numerous opportunities for personal and intellectual development, and I encourage you to embrace them wholeheartedly. Your time here is not just about attending classes and earning a degree, but about discovering who you are and what you're truly capable of. We have a myriad of clubs, organizations, and extracurricular activities that cater to a wide range of interests. There is something for everyone. So, I invite you to dive in, get involved, and find your community of individuals who share your passions and aspirations.

While it's important to seize every opportunity to explore and make connections, I also want to emphasize the significance of your academic success. SUNY ESF is renowned for its rigorous programs and world-class faculty who are dedicated to mentoring and guiding you throughout your educational journey. Make it a priority to engage with your professors, ask questions, and seek academic support when needed. Remember, your education is a collaborative effort, and we are here to support you every step of the way.

Mandatory Trainings on Blackboard: SPARC/TRAC

As part of your new student onboarding activities, you will be asked to participate in one or more modules through this Blackboard course. You will need to activate your SU NetID and can check the status in your ESF Portal. Once you have activated your Syracuse University login information, you can login to Blackboard here.

As part of state and federal law, we are required to provide prevention education on several topics. Completion of these learning modules and surveys are required. You will be notified via your syr.edu email which course(s) you will be expected to take and the associated deadlines. Ensure that you fill out the form below the modules to confirm your completion.

SPARC (Sexual and Interpersonal Violence Prevention and Response Course) is an interactive course designed to assist new ESF students in understanding College policy/response related to sexual assault, dating/domestic violence, and stalking. Included in this course will be an overview of bystander intervention, campus and community resources available to ESF students, and how to assist someone who may be experiencing these behaviors.

TRAC (Training in Responsible Alcohol Consumption) is designed to provide important content and strategies to help you make informed and safe decisions around alcohol and other drugs. Highlighted in this course is information about how alcohol affects your body, the relationships people have with substances, and creating a plan for yourself. TRAC will also explore the relationship that people can form with alcohol and how to integrate all of this into your decision-making.

If you are experiencing technical difficulties, please contact Amelia Hoffman via email at aghoffma@esf.edu

Submit Your Final Transcript

ESF will pre-register you over the summer for many of your fall courses. Please be sure to submit all college/university credit, including AP scores and final transcripts, to ESF's Office of Undergraduate Admissions at esfinfo@esf.edu.

All first-year students (and transfer students who have not completed the minimum required math course for their major) must complete the Math Placement Assessment before July 27.

Complete the Math Placement Assessment

The Math Placement Assessment invitation and link will come from Qualtrics, noreply@qemailserver.com to your applicant email address. The Assessment does not have a time limit and there are 50 questions. If you have already taken AP Calculus or a college-level math course, you can fill out the first portion of the link and provide an unofficial transcript of your grades in order to receive an exemption.

Be honest. It is important that the Math Placement Assessment is taken seriously, and that each student makes an honest effort so that the assessment accurately reflects their current level of knowledge and math preparedness. Therefore, while taking the Math Placement Assessment, students should not consult any outside sources for help (friends/family, internet searches, textbooks, notes, etc.) However, students may use a non-graphing calculator.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Amelia Hoffman aghoffma@esf.edu.

Due: Before July 27
