Kentucky native and Premiere Networks President Julie Talbott was presented with the Trailblazer Award by the Mentoring and Inspiring Women in Radio Group, at the 2018 Radio Show this week in Orlando, acknowledging her 30 year career in the broadcast industry. Crediting the women in her early life as she accepted the award on Wednesday, she said, “It feels like a tribute to the women in my family who led with grace and courage and impacted my life enormously.”
Talbott said she looked back on her own small-town Kentucky upbringing for preparing her to rise through radio. Her grandmother, who ran a family-run bank and a farm, showed her that “women could be strong, successful business leaders.” And she credited her own mother’s efforts helping her father get elected to public office for a quarter century for teaching her “the power of determination and drive.”
“I view this award as a big responsibility to continue acting as a role model and mentor for other women,” Talbott said. “And I hope to positively inspire and impact them as much as I can and as much as women in my life inspired me.”
The Kentucky Broadcasters Association congratulates Julie on this tremendous honor. The Award is presented to a woman in the industry who, through her leadership and success, creates opportunities for other women in radio to further their careers.
Fallen firefighters from across the country will be recognized at services on October 6 and 7 in Emmitsburg, Maryland. The two services will be made available free via satellite feed so that stations may use them on their primary or secondary stations or stream on station websites.

Fall webinar with Al Tompkins of the Poynter Institute.

Fighting Fake News
-detecting bias in how we describe events
-bias in delivery
-how to detect fake photos and video
-how fake social media trolls create their fakes in seconds
-crowd “actors” who fake events
-the trolls who start rumors
-tracking the truth with simple easy tools
-four critical questions to ask to “think critically”

Paul Weyland explains that your job is to be creative for the client, and explains how to effectively do just that.

Mike Cheney, expert in the art of understanding people, answers LIVE broadcaster questions! In this session:
How can I do a better job of knowing my customer’s personality style and then adjusting my behavior to comfortably close sales?
Is there a certain time frame when talking with a prospective client that you should stay away from? In other words, how long is too long?
At our station we constantly repeat the phrase, “always be closing”. Does that philosophy work with all four personality styles?
How do you stay on track with the Expressives that want to talk about everything in their life?
I am now second-guessing my philosophy of “selling to others the way I like to be sold to”. You are saying something a bit different, aren’t you?

Eric Moore discusses the most underdeveloped and under used sales skill in the world! In this segment, he lists three key things you can do to strengthen your abilities in this area and also offers some simple ideas on how you can put them into practice.
