Summit County appoints Shapiro and Dickinson
Summit County Council President Ilene Shapiro has been appointed county executive due to the death of the late County Executive Russ Pry. Prior to her appointment, Ilene served on Summit County Council since 2007 and chaired the Planning and Economic Development Committee for seven years. She has been involved with successful business ventures and started Shapiro Consulting, specializing in areas of sales, marketing, business planning, workforce and economic development. Currently, Ilene serves on The University of Akron Research Foundation Board, the Northeast Ohio Four County Regional Planning and Development Organization Board and is a member of the Greater Akron Area ATHENA PowerLink governing body. On the national level, Ilene serves on NACo's Community, Economic and Workforce Development Steering Committee.  
Clair Dickinson is no stranger to local government or the judiciary in Summit County.  Previously, he served nearly eight years as a member of Summit County Council, serving as president of that body for three of those years. In addition, he served 12 years as judge on the Ohio Ninth District Court of Appeals. He is a partner in the law firm of Browse and McDowell. During law school, Clair was editor-in-chief of the Cleveland State Law Review. He began his career as a law clerk for the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Ohio. Clair is a former member of the Ohio Supreme Court Commission on the Rules of Practice and Procedure and Commission on the Rules of Superintendence. He was appointed to the unexpired term of At Large Council Member Ilene Shapiro, who was appointed to the office of county executive.
