CCAO nominating committee appointed

The CCAO Board of Directors approved the appointment of a five-member Nominating Committee that will be chaired by Mike Halleck, Columbiana County Commissioner. Other members include: Gary Lee, Union County Commissioner; Debbie Lieberman, Montgomery County Commissioner; Kerry Metzger, Tuscarawas County Commissioner; and Daniel Troy, Lake County Commissioner.

It is the responsibility of the committee to recommend a slate of officers and board members to be elected at the CCAO Annual Business Meeting on Monday morning, Dec. 5 held during the CCAO/CEAO Winter Conference. Nominations will also be accepted from the floor.

The committee will be nominating candidates for the offices of president, 1st vice president, secretary and treasurer. In addition, seven members will be nominated to serve on the Board of Directors for two-year terms. The Nominating Committee will also fill any vacancies that may exist where members elected to a two-year term will not be returning to office or where a member forfeits office for non-attendance.

New procedures - The Nominating Committee is governed by the following procedures adopted in 2015:
  • The Nominating Committee should place on the ballot the names of all eligible candidates who have requested to be nominated to the office of 2nd vice president. The person receiving the highest number of votes at the election conducted during the annual business meeting would be elected to the office of 2nd vice president.
  • The Nominating Committee should automatically nominate the then-sitting 2nd vice president for the office of 1st vice president, and the then-sitting 1st vice president for the office of president.
  • Nominations other than the Nominating Committee's for the offices of secretary, treasurer, 1st vice president and president, will only be accepted from the floor at the election.
Also new is a Bylaws amendment that was adopted in 2015 that allows the CCAO president to serve more than one year as long as the years are not consecutive . Read more...
