Garden Club of Indian River County

Every year the Garden Club of Indian River County features a special place or event special to our county for the annual collector’s ornament. The club’s 32nd ornament features Riverside Theatre - Florida’s largest professional theatre! What better way to celebrate Riverside Theatre’s 50th Anniversary!

Riverside Theatre, built in 1973, got a major facelift in 2005 and opened March 2007 as the beautiful state-of-the-art theatre we know and love today.

The Design: The ultra-modern angular design of the main building is the feature image within the circular ornament, measuring nearly 3 inches by 3 inches. Layered in front of the ornament is a music staff with comedy and tragedy masks on the left and a silhouette of a graceful ballerina performing a pirouette on the right.

Riverside Theatre’s logo, a large gold star with sweeping flourishes, is the centerpiece of the deep blue starry night, in honor of all the stars the theatre brings to our beautiful community.

Proceeds from Ornaments help fund the club’s local scholarships and community outreach programs, aimed at enhancing, preserving, and beautifying the landscape of Indian River County.

The A.E. Backus Museum is pleased to present an important exhibition that explores the close friendship between artist “Bean” Backus and publishing magnate “Kip” Kiplinger. The exhibition, Kindred Spirits: Paintings & Letters from the Kiplinger Family Collection, will be on view through January 7, 2024 at the museum.

W. M. Kiplinger (1891-1967), a famed Washington journalist with a home on Sewall's Point in Stuart, discovered the art of A. E. Backus and befriended him in the 1950s. Despite the differences in their lives, Kiplinger found in Backus a close counterpart, and commissioned a number of significant paintings. A tireless letter writer, Kiplinger corresponded with his friend as well as with other artists he met at the Backus Studio, including a remarkable exchange with future Highwaymen artist Alfred Hair (1941-1970).

This exhibition is the first public showing of these paintings and rare letters, and also includes selected works by Al Black, Walter Cole, Willie Daniels, James F. Hutchinson, Kevin Hutchinson, Therese Knowles, Roy McLendon, Harold Newton, and Sam Newton acquired by W.M. Kiplinger, and in recent years the Kiplinger Family, that honor the Backus legacy.

Ballet Vero Beach

In partnership with the Vero Beach Film Festival, Ballet Vero Beach is thrilled to present A Decade of Dance, the first feature length documentary ever made about the company. Resident Filmmaker Lance Glenn knits together the behind the scenes story of our 10th Anniversary Season from the perspective of the staff that made it all happen. The film examines the monumental task of running an arts organization in today’s challenging world, and the story that emerges is one of adversity, beauty, exhaustion, and accomplishment. The film is a tribute to all the magic makers and helpers that are just trying to bring people together in a world that appears more and more divided. As Ballet Vero Beach enters its second decade, glance back on the momentous and tumultuous year that capped our first. The live premiere screening includes a post film discussion with the filmmakers. Both ticket holders to the premiere screening and on demand viewers will also receive free access to the company’s latest ReBVB short film, Ophelia, an official selection of the 2023 Vero Beach Film Festival, for the duration of the online access period.

Ballet Vero Beach: A Decade Of Dance

They take him on a tour of his past, present, and future in order to change the man he is into the man he must become.
