Gearing Up for Winter 2024-2025

October | 2024

Wapiti Nordic is the venue for the ASAA Provincial Cross Country Championships on October 19th with set up Oct 17-18. Prior to that, Zones will run on Wed, Oct 9th with their set up Oct 7-8th. Members are encouraged to use the north trail access point off Hwy 40 on these dates. And note that trail markers and fencing will be in place Oct 7-19th. Thank you for your understanding.

Nov 1 | 2024

Volunteers are putting the finishing touches to our Zone 4 registration page. Stay tuned to our Facebook page or check back on our website (see button) for live links to all 2024-2025 Membership options. The usual 10% Early Bird discount will be until November 30th. Stay tuned!

October | 2024

Numerous Board approved infrastructure improvements have taken place over the past couple of weeks: the old wooden ties at the front of the lodge and around the timing tower have been replaced with concrete blocks, the retaining wall by the group firepit / picnic shelter has been replaced, and the ground in front of the lodge in the main stadium has been levelled off. Big thanks to all volunteers involved in coordinating these projects and a shout out to Alder Bros. for their efficient and quality workmanship.

Trail levelling will continue until the snow flies (see list with photos) and we have a plan to try and remedy the Silver Arch water issues.

Fri Nov 8 | 2024

Our annual ski swap is back! This time it's all happening on the same day = Friday Nov 8th at the Steve Cooper Lodge. Gear drop off is 4:00 - 6:00pm; gear sales will be from 6:15 - 8:00pm. Cash or cheque only. Mark this on your calendar if you want to clear out some older skis or if you are interested in picking up some gear (bring your boots/skis if you want to find matching equipment). See you there!

Fall | 2024

The Children's Learn to Ski desperately needs parent leaders to assist with this program. Support and direction is provided. If you have questions or can help in any way, please contact Cori, our volunteer Program Director (via button) before October 28th so we know how many places we can offer for kids when registrations open Nov 1-Dec 15. We normally try to offer 80 spaces but are looking at only 40 spaces if we cannot recruit more parent leaders. Or if you know someone who might be able to help please let us know.

Fall | 2024

Thanks to everyone who attended the Mountain Bike (Oct 1st) and Hike (Oct 6th) Tours of the proposed new multi use trails on the north side. Work on this Master Plan will continue throughout the Fall and into the Winter, and there will be further input opportunities at the Fall General Meeting.

The Wapiti Nordic Race team is well under way to training and getting ready for an exciting ski season ahead of us. If you have an athlete who is between the ages of 8-18 years and wants to join us it’s never too late! Please email Claire. Wapiti Nordic will be hosting an Alberta Cup race in 2025 for the first time in years!! We are so excited and in need of volunteers for this amazing weekend event. Please contact Claire for more information as well. See you out on the trails this fall while we are dryland training!!

Oct 13 & 27 / 2024

Join us Sunday Oct 13th and / or Sunday Oct 27th @ 11:30am for our try-it session: Introduction to Biathlon Bears. This program is for children (born 2014 & 2015) with an interest in skate skiing and target shooting with the Eco-Aim (electronic) rifles. Younger children are encouraged to practice their skiing skills in the Learn to Ski (Jackrabbits) program before transitioning to Biathlon. The full Biathlon Bears program officially starts Sunday, November 3rd.

Block off these dates on your 2025 calendar so you don't miss out on any of the epic films at our annual Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival World Tour: Friday Jan 9th, Saturday Jan 10th and Sunday Jan 11th (matinee)! Tickets will go on sale early November. Exciting!!
