Building healthy plants and root systems has been our primary goal this season and we have made good progress on greens thus far. In the Spring, we were not able to apply a pre-emergent to greens to help control the high pollutions of weeds that existed. Had we done that, there would have been no opportunity to seed the greens to fill bare areas. With crabgrass as the main offender, we have been making regular post-emergent herbicide applications to help control the weed without damaging the bentgrass. There is a fine line between controlling the weeds and damaging the desirable turf especially when combined with other summertime stresses on the plants. We will continue to modify our application rates, intervals and distribution to achieve the best results possible. Looking ahead, the healthy base and nearly complete coverage established this season will give us the opportunity to utilize pre-emergent products next year and continue the improvement process.

SGA Update

The second half of the season is under way and so far CCC SGA have two wins and two losses.

The seniors record is 8 wins and 3 losses so far this season with 3 matches left before the playoffs. Hopefully, the team can bring home a couple more victories and advance to the playoffs and bring that trophy back home. More to follow after the next three matches.

LGA News!

Congratulations go to our new Ladies Club Champion, Lisa Rand! It was a highly competitive match in which neither player were more than 2 shots apart for the entire match! Lisa posted a second day score of 81 to edge out Ann Dufrane by 1 shot!

It was a great month to see the ladies come out for the Member/Member and Woodward Tournaments. Those who participated included Ann DuFrane, Lisa Rand, Dottie Heilman, Judy Beninati, Joanne Durr, and Priscilla Hilton.

LGA Team completed their season of 7 weeks with a strong finish winning their last 2 matches against Montclair and Green Hills in the final weeks. Ann DuFrane did a great job as Co-Team Captain with Fauquier Springs. Our team this year was Lisa Rand, Ann DuFrane, Cindy Thornhill, Dottie Heilman, Judy Beninati, and Sandra Fulton.

LGA Fun Day was held on Tuesday morning, July 20^th, and Thursday evening July 22nd. Splitting the event enabled so many ladies to come out and play. A great time was had by all with the 9-hole games and prizes for the winners!

Tennis & Pickleball

Get some exercise, learn something new and enjoy a little friendly competition!

We now have 2 pickleball courts outlined on the middle tennis court. Our tennis pro, Mark Ferlazzo provides private and group tennis and pickleball lessons. Mark has put together some fun activities for exercise and competition this summer. Please contact Mark on the day of the activity to let him know if you will be participating that day.
