From the GM....
We bid a sad farewell to the pool and all things summer but are looking forward to all things fall....cooler weather, football, beautiful colors and warm fires!
This month brings us our Annual Ugly Couch Tournament, Gathering & Silent Auction! Don't forget to bring a dish to share, maybe your family's favorite recipe! There is still time to donate for the Silent Auction up until September 17th! Great donation ideas include, jewelry, sports memorabilia, booze, new home decor, fall decorations, etc.
We also are excited about our new event, the Fall Festival that has a focus on kiddos and families. Mark your calendars for Sunday, September 26th!
I'd like to recognize a couple of members who helped out with a couple of things. Priscilla Hilton made beautiful sink curtains that gave the pool bathrooms a neat new look. Rae Pilgrim for hustling those Ugly Couch sponsorships! Mary Tuggle for securing a sponsorship for the Fall Festival. Way to go ladies!

Greens aerification represents the last major agronomic practice of the summer growing season. The aerification process went very well. We were able to distribute an appropriate amount of sand to fill the holes and leave some on the surface. While most of the sand goes into the holes, the sand left on top helps to smooth the putting surface and will work down into the thatch layer to help to dilute this organic material. This is another step forward in building turf that is better able to withstand stress and provide a great playing surface.
With high temperatures behind us for the most part, we have shifted out of survival mode. The focus now is to recover any summer scars and prepare the turf for winter. The fall season is often the most productive for building strong root systems on the cool season greens. On the warm season turf, we'll be providing specific nutrients to help minimize winterkill and ensure we get off to a good start next spring. For tees, fairways and rough, the winter season will also allow us to be more aggressive in lowering the weed populations. Improving weed control is one of our goals for next season. On the soil health front, we will be submitting soil samples for analysis in the next few weeks to give us a clear picture of the progress made and help us to refine our programs for next year.

SGA Update
After 4 long months the regular season came to an end on Aug 26th with 4 teams making the playoffs.
Fawn Lake - 1st place (11-3)
Culpeper - 2nd place (10-4)
Lake of the Woods (LOW) - 3rd (8-6 )
Gauntlet - 4th (7-7)
Culpeper won all 7 home matches and 3 away matches.
Our team will now play LOW in the semi final playoff on Sept 9th and Fawn lake will play against Gauntlet. The two winners will face off on the 16th for the trophy. Win or lose, the team has had a great season and hopefully (Golf Gods willing ) we can bring back home the trophy.
Our players have one goal...to do the best we can and return home, hopefully, as the league champs. No matter how it turns out, thank you to all our players for all their extra efforts and dedication to the team.
This is a great group of men who are always willing to do what is best for our team.
Wish us luck in the playoffs.
We will give it our all!!!

LGA News!
August was an exciting month for the LGA members at the Country Club of Culpeper. Two events were held with a great turnout, the Ladies' Club Championship and the President’s Cup.
The Ladies' Club Championship was held August 7th and 8th. Congratulations to Lisa Rand for retaining the championship for the 2nd year in a row. The 2- day competition between Lisa and Ann DuFrane was extremely close, ending in a 1-stroke difference. The net competition held on Sunday, was a fun event and congratulations also goes out to 1st place Cindy Thornhill and runner-up Julie Yowell. Congratulations ladies!
This year’s President Cup tournament was organized by LGA President, Lisa Rand. Held Tuesday, August 24th, the field of 19 ladies had a great time. Winners from the front-9 was the team of Sarah Choi, Judy Gore and Ann DuFrane. Back-9 winners were Priscilla Hilton, Carolyn Johnson and Judy Beninati. Lunch at a local Mexican restaurant was held afterwards to celebrate the fun day. Due to severe weather, Thursday evening’s event has been postponed to September 16th.
Want to try out the LGA? Starting in September we are offering a free trial period through the end of season. Come play with the ladies on Tuesday mornings or Thursday evenings to see if you like it. The new season starts in April with a membership fee of $35. Come on out and join in the fun!

Chef's Corner
I want to take this opportunity to thank all of you for being patient, and showing the restaurant staff and management grace during this past year. Also, a special thank you to those who volunteered their time and efforts to lend a helping hand! (And the “veggie fairies” have made me smile too!)
As you all know, prices and availability have been a challenge in the food and hospitality industry. Be assured that we are working diligently to obtain the best value without comprising quality.
It definitely takes a team to run a kitchen and I am grateful for the hard work our staff puts in daily to ensure we are providing the best possible dining experience.
A new fall/winter menu is on the verge of a launch and I’m sure your going to love it! Also, look for some fun food classes/events coming soon too!
Thank you again!
