Dear Superintendents and School Leaders,
The County of San Diego will announce at a press conference this afternoon that they are working with the San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE) on a plan to vaccinate school employees. You can watch the press conference live at 2:30 p.m. on the
county's Facebook page.
SDCOE has been in discussions with the County of San Diego and California Schools VEBA around efforts to vaccinate critical essential education employees. As a non-profit trust, VEBA provides health insurance to tens of thousands of public school employees in San Diego County and has a 28-year history of partnering with local health care systems to ensure members have timely access to the highest quality healthcare.
As you know, vaccines have been in short supply. Last week, San Diego County received just over a quarter of what they requested from the state. Therefore, all plans to vaccinate school employees are contingent upon the county and health care providers receiving sufficient supplies.
We understand the tremendous urgency surrounding vaccines, not only for our employees but also for our students and families. We will share additional details as they become available. In the meantime, feel free to review and to share our
vaccine information webpage with your school community.
Sincerely,
Paul
