Nonprofit organizations across Santa Barbara County are carrying an incredible weight right now. As nonprofits work tirelessly to care for our neighbors, many are grappling with shrinking resources, sudden shifts in funding priorities, and the ripple effects of changing policies and practices. These challenges are exacerbated for organizations serving immigrant communities, where the need for food, shelter, healthcare, and legal support is only growing—often in the face of fear, trauma, and uncertainty.
In response, the Santa Barbara Foundation has launched the Critical Needs Response Fund to provide timely, flexible support to nonprofits experiencing these disruptions and/or increased demand for services, so that our community remains strong, connected, and cared for.

Jewish Free Loan Association is a nonprofit lending organization, offering zero-interest, zero-fee loans to individuals, families, students, small businesses, and nonprofits in Santa Barbara County. They make loans to people of all faiths and backgrounds. No collateral needed, just a source of income and qualified guarantors to sign onto the loan.
211 recently launched a new, dedicated immigration resource page on their website. This initiative aims to centralize and simplify access to vital information and support for individuals and families navigating immigration processes.
RRM Draws for a Cause provides a platform to connect nonprofit organizations with volunteer designers at RRM to create free renderings for fundraising and visioning purposes.
The Law Firm for Nonprofits focuses exclusively on working with nonprofits and donors on corporate governance issues, IRS and Attorney General audits, navigating complex transactions, and strategic growth planning, including mergers and acquisitions.

The Foundation Roundtable is requesting help in tracking funding cuts to specific local organizations. Nonprofit leaders can complete a short form summarizing cuts experienced or anticipated by their organization, the impacts and their request of local philanthropy. The information will create a shared knowledge base of organizations impacted for all Roundtable members to reference as they seek to support our local nonprofits. Completing this form will not necessarily result in additional grant funding, but it will develop a clearer view of the broader landscape of losses in the nonprofit ecosystem in Santa Barbara County, guide collective efforts and flag opportunities for rapid response.
SBF's Collaboration for Social Impact is dedicated to supporting nonprofits serving Santa Barbara County. This includes continuously identifying and sharing resources such as those above as well as professional development training opportunities for nonprofit leaders and staff. This year's topics included contingency planning, fundraising, and leveraging technology such as social media to achieve your organization's goals. In late May, the Santa Barbara Foundation partnered with the County of Santa Barbara to co-host a three-day, expert-led training on housing problem-solving for more than 100 service providers representing over 40 organizations across the county.
This prevention work is part of SBF’s broader efforts to respond to the housing and homelessness crises in our region. By working alongside a cross-sector network of partners, the Santa Barbara Foundation is helping to advance prevention and diversion strategies– critical tools for keeping individuals and families safely housed.
In addition to protecting lives and upholding dignity, preventing housing loss reduces long-term costs and can transform outcomes for generations of families. On June 16, SBF endorsed the Santa Barbara County Association of Governments (SBCAG) and California Department of Transportation’s request for $134 million in Senate Bill 1 Cycle 4 funding to complete the Santa Barbara US 101 Multimodal Corridor project. This initiative addresses one of California’s most congested freeway segments, serving over 100,000 daily travelers while advancing state climate and equity goals.

The Santa Barbara Foundation, the Fund for Santa Barbara, the Ventura County Community Foundation (VCCF), the McCune Foundation, and the Cal Lutheran Center for Nonprofit Leadership co-convened a webinar with State Senator Monique Limon, SD 21 and Brian Gerard Armstrong, State Supervising Deputy Attorney General, with the Charitable Trusts Section of the Office of the Attorney General.

The National Low Income Housing Coalition (NLIHC) has launched an advocacy campaign opposing proposed federal budget that would reduce HUD program funding by 44% and introduce harmful restrictions including time limits and block grants for affordable housing and homelessness programs. SBF supported this effort by signing a letter addressed to key Appropriations Committee leaders.
