2021 County Budget:
Tax Rate Freeze,
Lower Than Fourteen Years Ago
|
|
The Hunterdon County Board of Commissioners, on April 20, introduced a $92.293 million county budget that continues to spend substantially less than the nearly $100 million budget from fourteen years ago and freezes the county tax rate for the third consecutive year.
Commissioner Matt Holt, a member of the Board’s Budget Committee said, in introducing the budget, “The budget shows the county is spending less than it did in the past. The 2021 budget not only freezes the tax rate, it also remains substantially below the nearly $100 million budget from 2007, and is still even lower than the county budget from 2010, eleven years ago.
Board Director Susan J. Soloway stated, “The tax rate has been held steady over the course of the all three budgets during my term on the Board. It is a significant accomplishment for which I thank all who have been engaged in the process. As I have stated before, putting Hunterdon County first means putting the taxpayers first.”

Hunterdon County’s Health Department’s drive through vaccination clinic has administered over 14,000 first and second doses of vaccine and is prepared for the expansion of COVID-19 vaccination eligibility, County Commissioner Shaun C. Van Doren reported at the Board’s meeting on April 20.
Van Doren, the Board’s Health Department liaison, reported, “Yesterday everyone over the age of 16 was made eligible for vaccination, however, the state allocates the Moderna vaccine to the Hunterdon County clinic, which is approved for those age 18 and above only.”
Van Doren said, “Individuals can sign up for the drive thru clinic wait list on-line at the County’s website. Those who do not have access to the internet or have difficulty managing the on-line appointment process can call the County Health Department Call Center at 908 788-1351.”

Commissioner Holt Joined State Ag Secretary In Calling For Public Help With Spotted Lantern Fly Elimination
|
|
Hunterdon County Commissioner Matt Holt joined the New Jersey State Agriculture Secretary in encouraging residents to battle the spotted lantern fly (SLF), which has spread throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey, and is expected to start hatching again in the early spring and will continue to affect economically important plants during the summer months.
Commissioner Holt stated, “The Ag Secretary, Douglas Fisher, is asking residents to eliminate SLF egg masses before they start hatching at the end of the month, through early May, stopping them before they begin feeding on local vegetation, destroying all they eat. The Hunterdon Board of Commissioners fully support that effort.”
