At a hearing today in Los Angeles Superior Court, Judge James C. Chalfant granted ALADS’ request for a Temporary Restraining Order prohibiting Defendants Inspector General Huntsman, the Office of the Inspector General, Sheriff Luna and the County from compelling the attendance of any ALADS-represented deputy in an interview pursuant to the OIG’s May 12, 2023 letter. Defendants are also prohibited from requiring any of the deputies to produce photographs of tattoos or to require deputies to reveal their legs for inspection. The Judge’s order is based on his conclusion that ALADS’ claims that the proposed interviews violate the Fourth Amendment, the right to privacy under the California Constitution, the Pitchess statutes and ALADS’ bargaining rights under the Meyers-Milias-Brown Act have a reasonable likelihood of success. The prohibition will remain in effect until at least June 29, 2023, when Judge Chalfant will again address the issues.
