COVID Return to Squash Update

Squash BC has just updated the Return to Squash (R2S) Guidelines document to reflect the move on August 24th to sport's Phase 3 - Progressively Loosen. See the Sport Activity Chart from viaSport's Return to Sport Guidelines for BC. This move means that squash in BC is now in Level 5 of our Matrix of Sample Phased-in Squash Activities with Corresponding Risk Mitigations.

This new phase allows for a 50-player cohort model and a framework for returning slowly to competitive play, e.g. leagues and tournaments, with modifications. As we develop the roll-out plan, please be considerate of where your club or facility is at - not all clubs and facilities will move at the same rate. It's likely that competitive play will start in club with smaller than 50-player cohorts and grow slowly. Details are being worked out to get ready for the fast-approaching Fall season. No matter the pace of loosening restrictions/enlarging your cohort, key factors that will continue include:
  • Enhanced hygiene measures
  • Minimizing close physical proximity or physical contact - within a cohort only
  • Limiting the number and duration of contacts between different participants (when physical distancing is not possible)
  • Maintaining physical distancing when not on court (e.g. pre- and post-game, officiating, locker/change rooms)
2020-2021 Calendar of Events Update
"It is with regret that league and tournament organizers and Squash BC announce the cancellation of a number of events that would normally be scheduled this Fall" said Nancy Thompson, Executive Director, Squash BC.

"These decisions were not made lightly by the organizing committees and Squash BC. The ongoing pandemic poses a major risk, and the health and safety of athletes, spectators and all those involved is paramount in these unprecedented times."

"We look forward to the restart of tournaments and leagues, likely in modified formats, in 2021 and possibly late 2020." The Squash BC Return to Squash Task Force and our squash community are working together to develop a safe 'roll out' plan for intra and inter club play. Stay tuned.
