Dear Neighbors,

Thank you to community members who attended a court hearing with us on Wednesday, June 10th for Willie Doles, who we have previously reported, was arrested for allegedly robbing two stores on Halsted Street and four stores in other areas at knifepoint.

Doles is being held without bail, and could face 6 to 30 years in prison for each offense if convicted of armed robbery.  The state's attorney will be seeking an indictment for armed robberies at the following locations:

  • 6920 S. Ashland Ave - Rent-A-Center
  • 2210 N. Halsted - Blue Jeans Bar
  • 1648 N. Damen - The Green Goddess
  • 2148 N. Halsted - Londo Mondo
  • 1525 W. Madison - Subway
  • 7230 W. North Ave - Great American Bagel

We also attended court on Friday, June 12th for an offender accused of stealing from e-Drop-Off at 2117 N. Halsted Street on May 27th. An indictment will also be sought for this case.

We expect these cases to be back in court sometime in July.
In both cases, the offenders have extensive prior criminal records.  We applaud the great work done by the Chicago Police in arresting these offenders.

By appearing in court, we send the message that crime will not be tolerated in our community.  Please email us if you would like to be kept up-to-date on future opportunities to join us for court advocacy.

Bike Week and Bike Safety

Cycling is becoming an increasingly popular form of transportation in our ward, with Lincoln Avenue, Clark Street, Armitage Avenue and Wells Street serving as important bike commuter routes.

As this week is  Chicago Bike Week, we'd like to update you on steps being taken to improve safety in our neighborhood.  As cycling's popularity continues to grow, we are working to ensure the safety of all road users. That's why we are partnering with the City of Chicago Bicycling Ambassadors to host a total of ten enforcement events this summer in our ward.  The latest event was held at the intersection of Broadway, Clark and Diversey, and next week there will be an enforcement event at Halsted and Diversey.

At these events, police officers   stop cyclists and motorists exhibiting illegal behaviors, issuing tickets and warnings. Bicycling Ambassadors  are also on hand to educate cyclists on dangerous behaviors such as disobeying traffic signals and biking against traffic.

We will continue working with City departments and the Chicago Police Department to improve safety for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians, alike.

And if you are a bike commuter, join the the Lincoln Park Chamber of Commerce for a  Bike to Work Week  event along the 2300 block of Lincoln Avenue on Thursday, June 18th from 3:30 p.m - 6:30 p.m.  There will be a gathering place for cyclists, and more.

Out and About

Enjoyed spending time with neighbors (and a few friendly horses from the CPD Mounted Patrol) at the Dayton Street block party!
