Okay, our small army of teardrop builders is almost complete. Before we bump up the price, let’s talk about what it actually means to be a "Beta Builder” as we end the program today.

This is about being a part of the brand, not just making a purchase. We want to look back in five years and see this Beta list as the Originals who helped us prove that aluminum is the future of DIY. You get the access; we get the partners we need to build this momentum.

Here is exactly what it means to be on the team:

• Locked-in Pricing: Moving forward, we’ve decided to lock in this pricing for any Beta Builder. That means if you build another one, you can get it for the same price you bought it for today—plus or minus whatever the aluminum market does. It’s kind of like you’re sponsored by Smyth.



• At-Cost Add-ons: You’re basically going to get everything at cost. When we make an add-on front box this month that’s $500 retail for everyone else, we’ll give it to you for about $350. Same for the soon-to-be-released interior trim kits, the roof rack...you get the picture. That’s just how the Beta team will rewarded at this important stage of the launch.

The Potential

One thing we’ve noticed as we briefly reopen the Beta program is how many of you are considering building these for others. At $3,790 for a 480 or $4,990 for a 510, there’s a lot of room to work with. Once you add the base trailer and your own craftsmanship, it’ll be a lot of fun to see what these aluminum wonders command out there.

I just saw an old mini Airstream with a questionable chassis on sale for $27,000 on FB Marketplace. Aluminum counts. Bean teardrop trailers go for up to $75,000 with all the bells and whistles (it really is an amazing product, no disrespect to them, but dang). We know the folks in this group are more than capable of adding those high-end features themselves—all you've been missing is the right professional-grade starting point. Well, here you go.

The Build & The Materials

To be clear, this is for builders with some experience and basic tools on hand. While it’s not as complex as a Smyth car-to-truck conversion (far easier actually), and although we are currently shipping and customers are posting their progress on the build group as we speak, it is still early. Hence the price that rewards you for helping us get the word out.

This is not a fiberglass shell or a wooden box on wheels. You’ll be enjoying a tremendous value with beautiful design and the elegance and quality of welded aluminum that stands out in a sea of plywood. It’s the same material we use to manufacture cars that drag race, climb mountains, and survive serious collisions. Simply put, we had no problems making this thing the most structurally sound teardrop kit ever made.

The price will stay as it is for today, then jump a bit as we begin retail sales. Starting tomorrow, the first of several price increases (think $1,000 for now) will hit the web page. Aluminum is only going up, and more and more build content and proof of how great this project is will be surfacing online. One thing is certain: right now, the aluminum teardrop coupled with the window and door package that you are getting for this price is unheard of. Literally: this is simply the first time it's been done.
