"So if the Son sets you free,

you will be free indeed."

John 8:36

Here is the latest news from our

Covenant Church of Bay Indies Community!

JUNETEENTH

Holidays come and go with the symbolism and true meaning of the day getting overlooked by many. Today, June 19, is Juneteenth, a Federal Holiday.

On June 19, 1865, Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas with the news that the more than 250,000 enslaved Black people in the state were free. This was about two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was first put into law.

Juneteenth is a time to celebrate, to gather as a family, to look back at the past, and to contemplate a better future with equal rights and equal opportunities for all.

GATHER 2024

Family Reunions are fun! It is a great time for family members to gather together and celebrate the passing of another year in relationship and in our work together as a family.

GATHER 2024 is the name of the annual "Family Reunion" of the Evangelical Covenant Church. One of the key markers of the early church was their unwavering faithfulness, as described in the book of Acts.

We read about the early believers who devoted themselves to fellowship, generosity, worshipping together, and prayer by giving God the glory.

This year, the Gather theme is "Faithfully Forward" as we make the invitation to all to celebrate how God is moving throughout the denomination as we celebrate God's faithfulness this past year and we eagerly await His presence with us in the year ahead.

We are better together!

SCRIPTURE IN A MINUTE

" This is my command-be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you whatever you go."

Joshua 1:9 NLT

Joshua had a lot on his mind as he obviously was in a discussion with God as to what was going to be happening next. There was a lot of history already with the children of Israel, and there would be a lot more. The leadership role had squarely fallen on Joshua and now he had to act.

The words from God to Joshua are directed at us as well. We can take strength from the fact that no matter the situation, God is with us and will never leave us. He will always be there to champion our cause and guard and protect us. It is His promise, as it was for Joshua. It is for us today.

We are confident because we know God is with us no matter what!

"Every time I think of you, I give thanks to my God. Whenever I pray, I make my requests for all of you with joy, for you have been partners in spreading the Good News about Christ from the time you heard it until now."

Philippians 1:3-5 (NLT)
