Congregational Meeting THIS Sunday, Jan. 25 at 11:45am

At Covenant, we appreciate administering our church decently and in order. Our bylaws dictate that we host at least two congregational meetings throughout the year: one in January for routine business, and another in October for the purpose of electing new officers.

We'll host our January meeting following worship this Sunday. While there will be some fast-moving agenda items, the main focal point of the meeting will be presenting our building project! Come learn more and see some draft drawings of how we can enhance our building for the sake of Christian mission in our neighborhood.

The agenda for the meeting is as follows:

  • Opening in Prayer
  • Declaration of Quorum
  • Elect Nominating Committee (G-2.0401; CPC Bylaws Article 5 Section 1)
  • Elect Corporate Officers (Required by ID Code § 30-30-604 (2019)
  • Approve the Sr. Pastor's Compensation (G-1.0503c)
  • Hear updates on the upcoming building project
  • Close in prayer

Please schedule about 30 minutes or so for this meeting.

Starting on Sunday, January 11, there will be a signup in the Connection Center for the next round of small group socials, to be held sometime during February or March. Six to eight people will be grouped to meet and have a dinner out, dessert at a home, or whatever the group decides. Every few months there will be signups to join another group. See Doug at the Connection Center if you want further information.

Book Club

Book Club will continue on Thursday, February 19th at 10:00am. We will be discussing the book Nickel and Dimed by Barbara Ehrenreich.

In this book, Barbara Ehrenreich details her undercover experience working low-wage jobs to expose the struggles of the working poor in the U.S. She worked as a waitress, hotel maid, house cleaner, and Walmart associate, discovering that it's nearly impossible to survive on minimum wage, often requiring multiple jobs and leaving no room for unexpected expenses like medical care. The book became a classic of undercover journalism, revealing the harsh realities, anxiety, and surprising generosity of low-wage America.

New readers are always welcomed and encouraged!

Covenant Library

Covenant’s church library has many books related to Advent and Christmas. They are located in the different sections, such as, church resources, devotions, Bible study, family and inspiration. Some of the church section books tell the stories behind hymns that we sing this time of year. Knowing those stories might enhance the meaning of the familiar words. After the holiday celebrations, you might want to select a new devotional book or read an inspirational story to assist getting through the winter and post-holiday time.

Some books to consider: The History of Hymn Singing as Told Through One Hundred & One Famous Hymns in the Church Resources section; How Sweet the Sound: The Power and Promise of 30 Beloved Hymns by Laura L. Smith and Holiness in Hidden Places by Joni Earaeckson Tada are in the inspiration section.
