A little catch up!

A Year of Hope, Healing, and Opportunity at Covenant

Sorry for such a delayed update about Covenant. We have been busy restoring lives and transforming generations for foster youth and their families. I promise we will be better at communicating.

This past year has been nothing short of extraordinary for Covenant and the young people and families we serve. With compassion at the center of every program and innovation guiding each step forward, Covenant continues to be a place where foster youth and former foster youth are met with hope, dignity, and unwavering support. Every day, lives are being restored and generations transformed through relationship‑based care, meaningful employment, and stable housing rooted in love.

At the heart of Covenant’s workforce development efforts is Covenant Coffee, a mission‑driven social enterprise creating real opportunities for foster youth and young adults to build skills, confidence, and career pathways. More than a job, Covenant Coffee provides a supportive employment environment where youth learn responsibility, teamwork, customer service, and leadership. Through hands‑on training and mentoring, young people gain not only a paycheck, but also a renewed sense of purpose and belief in their own potential. For many, this is their first experience of consistent employment combined with encouragement and accountability—an experience that can change the trajectory of a life.

Across all programs, Covenant’s holistic approach shines through. Youth and families have access to counseling services that address trauma and mental health needs, mentorship that offers encouragement and role modeling, and life skills classes that equip participants for long‑term success. Case managers walk alongside each individual, helping set goals, remove barriers, and celebrate milestones along the way.

Why This Work Matters

The statistics are heartbreaking — and they are preventable:

  • 70% of California State Prison inmates are former foster youth
  • 36% become homeless within 18 months of emancipation
  • 25% are incarcerated within two years
  • 51% are unemployed within 2–4 years
  • 40% rely on public assistance
  • 50% of female foster youth become pregnant by age 19

These outcomes are not failures of the youth — they are failures of the system.

Covenant exists to change these outcomes.

Together, We Restore Lives and Transform Generations

Our work is only possible because of strong community partners — the Department of Human Services, the faith community, local businesses, and individuals who believe in the potential of every young person.

When we invest in former foster youth, we don’t just change one life.

We change families.

We change futures.

We change generations.
