I'm sure I could find more on other shelves around the store like these two on New Non Fiction, which echo the tan-background-with-orangey/red vibes of our August Book Of The Month. Téa Obreht's Sunrise is a fabulous tale of the remote Wyoming town of Sunrise told in three different timelines. In the present, Nina survives a plane crash and stumbles into the wholly abandoned town while she tries to survive and reach civilization. A few decades earlier, we focus on Coll, the area historian who puts on yearly reenactments of the most famous heroics of Sunrise’s founders and the budding novelist who upends the story he knew. The third tale centers around Anton, the storied gunslinger who helped establish the town and returns to Sunrise at the end of his life. With three distinct stories in one, I wondered how they’d braid together cohesively by the end and the payoff is worth the wait. This is truly great and we have copies on our Indie Next shelf, adjacent to checkout.
Hope you enjoy these next few weeks until school starts on August 26th. A reminder that we have all of MMS' + DHS' summer reading titles stocked for you / your students. And don't forget to pre-order your copy of Homemaking With Babs so Barbara Costello can sign your copy!
