Covid-19: Update on our programs and ways to help

Good morning, Peace Family,

In keeping with the COVID-19 containment procedures and recommendations, Peace Neighborhood Center will be suspending its normal after school programs for the next three weeks while Ann Arbor Public Schools is closed.  As of this time, we anticipate resuming our programs as normal on Monday, April 6th.

During this school shutdown, Peace is partnering with the school district to distribute bagged lunches to families who typically receive free or reduced lunch.  We will be distributing those lunches to be picked up by a family member at our main site tentatively scheduled between noon and 1:30 Monday through Friday during the weeks of March 16-20 and March 23-27. For those families we serve who live in Maple Meadows and West Arbor, you may pick up those lunches at our satellite centers at those locations.  We are still waiting on final verifications of these times from the school district along with the plans for our families at Scio Farms, Lakestone, Arbor Club and Pine Lake.  Once we hear about possible distribution at those locations, we will make another announcement. Please note: the lunches will NOT be distributed during the week of the originally planned Spring Break of March 30 through April 3rd.  Please plan accordingly.

Our Friday Food Distribution of fresh breads and produce in partnership with Food Gatherers will run as normal during this time period.  This is a first-come, first-serve distribution that runs from 9:30am-11:30am every Friday. If you are a family in need, please make sure you are utilizing this resource.

Ways to Help
We are receiving phone calls from supporters who are seeking ways to help families deal with this unexpected strain.  If you are inclined to help, we are asking for gift cards to Kroger or Meijer in $25 denominations that we can distribute to families to help them with increased food costs during this time.

We will monitor the situation over the coming weeks and will send any updates as necessary.  In the meantime, please contact us at (734) 662-3564 if you have questions or concerns.  Thank you all for your support of the children and families we serve.  We wish all of you and your loved ones continued health and safety.

Sincerely,

Bonnie Billups, Jr.
