COVID-19: SLMDA Concerned Over Mass Crowd Election Campaign Events
The Saint Lucia Medical and Dental Association (SLMDA), warning that ‘COVID-19 is still here’, has expressed grave concern over mass crowd election campaign events, as both major political parties here prepare for general elections on July 26.
In a statement issued Saturday night on behalf of the association, President Dr. Merle Clarke, noted the ‘horrifying consequences’ of indiscriminate election campaigning in other jurisdictions.

We the members of the Saint Lucia Medical and Dental Association observe with grave concern and trepidation the significant increase in mass crowd campaign events around the island.
Even more frightening is the fact that the large majority of attendees are generally not wearing masks or are wearing them inappropriately.
We would like to remind you our fellow citizens, that we are living through a pandemic. COVID-19 IS STILL HERE. As of July 10, there are 120 active cases here in Saint Lucia. Specific Requirements/Duties of the Position Include:
- Manages company social media channels, including Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram other new and emerging platforms.
- Creates thoughtful, engaging and exciting content (written, graphic, video) across all social media platforms.
- Posts on designated platforms as required and instructed.
- Populates social media calendar with powerful content in line with the specific resort and/or company’s vision and mission
- Introduces new social and digital media trends and developments
- Creates, collates and posts relevant, timely and engaging content to the resort’s page on the company intranet.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Minimum of two (2) years’ in social media community management would be considered an asset.
- Working with social media platforms such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Google+, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, Snapchat, and other emerging social networks coupled with Graphic Design.
- Experience using social media management systems such as Sprinklr, Sprout Social, Hootsuite or others.
- Managing web sites or intranets.
- Proofreading and editing copy and ability to convert technical information into easy-to-understand formats.

PAHO Director Urges More COVID-19 Vaccines For Latin America, Caribbean
Pan American Health Organization Director Carissa F. Etienne Wednesday called for increased supplies of COVID-19 vaccines for the Americas, noting that millions in Latin America and the Caribbean still don’t know when they will have a chance to be immunised.
Etienne told reporters at her weekly media briefing that some countries in South and Central America, where the pandemic has hit particularly hard, have not yet been able to access enough doses to fully vaccinate 3% of their populations.
And she recalled that PAHO has urged nations with enough vaccines to share them with

New fee suggested for Cruise, Land Visitors
One regional tourism official is recommending that Barbados and other tourism dependent Caribbean states charge cruise and land tourists a “resilience fee” as part of a solution for raising funds to create a more sustainable tourism product.
This was one of several proposals put forward recently during the final in a five-part series of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean Future Tourism Regional Dialogue. The theme was Sustainable Solutions.
