COVID Update
1.23.2020
Dear Residents, Families and Staff,

As you know, yesterday morning we were alerted that a Madrona House resident who had gone out to the hospital to seek medical attention tested positive for COVID.  Yesterday we completed the testing of 136 staff and residents. The results are that we have eight additional assisted living residents and seven staff members at Madrona House testing positive for COVID.  That brings the current total of COVID positive cases to ten residents, two who are being treated for mild symptoms outside of Madrona House and eight who are asymptomatic and in isolation at Madrona House, and seven staff at Madrona House.

All families have been called and made aware that their loved one tested positive.  If you did not receive a call, your loved one tested negative. Of our ten COVID positive residents, only one of them was a resident in our memory care unit. The memory care resident resided on the fourth floor, East neighborhood and has been moved to isolation within assisted living. All COVID positive residents received the vaccine on 1/9/2021. As of 1/16/2021 all residents of Madrona have received their first dose of the vaccine.

Moving forward, our plan is to quarantine COVID positive, asymptomatic residents at Madrona House. Residents that are COVID positive and symptomatic we will try to place in a COVID ward or a hospital, if a nearby hospital/facility is accepting COVID positive patients.

All staff who tested positive for COVID have been alerted and taken off the schedule.  One was a server and the remaining six were care staff who worked closely with our assisted living residents.  Of our seven COVID positive staff, one is currently symptomatic with mild symptoms, the rest are currently asymptomatic. Of our seven COVID positive staff, only two of them chose to get vaccinated and were vaccinated on 12/24 & 12/26. COVID positive staff must test negative before returning to work. In the interim, we are working with our community partners to identify additional support staff.  Moving forward, we will retest all staff and residents at all three houses weekly.

We are keeping Wyatt House and Madison House on our active COVID protocol.  Wyatt House has now confirmed that a staff member who worked Monday, Tuesday  and Friday has tested positive for COVID. This staff member did not have any direct contact with Wyatt House residents but worked closely with our nursing and administration team. The three staff members this person worked with tested negative yesterday, they will be retested Monday and they will be working from home until their test results are returned.  Two of the three Wyatt House staff members that were exposed have been fully vaccinated.

Madison House is the lowest risk of our three houses but we have chosen to stay in our active protocol out of an abundance of caution.

I can only imagine that everyone has a lot of questions.  I will try and collate the questions and answer them in bulk with my next communication.

With Gratitude,
