Casa Grande, AZ (March 19, 2021) – Once again, the (City) of Casa Grande has combined efforts with Sun Life Family Health Center, Inc., to offer residents increased access to vaccinations at a City facility, this time at Dorothy Powell Senior Center. Now, any person age 18 and older can be vaccinated against Covid-19. Earlier this month, the same partnership delivered about 1,500 vaccinations to locals at the Community Recreation Center. Now, folks that live or work in Casa Grande can continue to access up to 400 appointments daily, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the new location.
Although at lower risk for infection, young adults can still face serious complications. According to
Lisa Maragakis, M.D., M.P.H., Senior Director of Infection Prevention at The Johns Hopkins Health System, data from one study showed that, of the more than 3,000 adults ages 18 to 34 who contracted COVID-19 and became sick enough to require hospital care, 21% ended up in intensive care, 10% were placed on a breathing machine and 2.7% died.
John Hopkins Medicine also reveals that college students and young adults often work in or frequent places of greater risk for Covid infection. These places include gyms, healthcare facilities, bars, restaurants, schools, childcare centers and retail stores. This makes
them the strongest purveyors of virus spread to their parents and older relatives.
“Everyone getting vaccinated as soon as possible helps to protect our loved ones and significantly moves our lives forward,” said McFarland. “If you want our community, schools and economy to run at full capacity, safely and responsibly --- please get vaccinated.”
According to the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, vaccination is safe…and an important tool in preventing people from getting seriously ill or hospitalized due to Covid-19. Pinal County Public Health
guidelines list groups 1a, 1b and 1c as now being available for vaccinations. Sun Life will continue providing immunizations at their own facility and scheduling appointments at Dorothy Powell Senior Center.
“Sun Life Family Health Center is dedicated to getting more residents vaccinated, faster,” said Samantha Reinhard, Director of Community Outreach. “The Senior Center provides ongoing capacity to reach that goal.”
