Understanding Coyotes in Our Community

A Free Wildlife Education Event - November 6, 2026 from 1-3 PM

Join Sonoma County Wildlife Rescue for a free educational experience focused on understanding coyotes and their behavior in Sonoma County.

Coyotes are an important part of our local ecosystems, and learning about their natural behaviors can help us better understand and coexist with native wildlife. This educational event will explore coyotes as a species, with a particular focus on juvenile dispersal, a normal stage of development when young coyotes leave their family groups and move into new areas.

With recent coyote sightings reported in Petaluma, this is an opportunity to learn more about coyote behavior, why these movements occur, and what they can look like in our communities.

What to Expect

  • A 30-minute educational presentation on coyote behavior and juvenile dispersal
  • An optional tour of Sonoma County Wildlife Rescue’s facility
  • Light refreshments and an opportunity to learn more about our work

Join us for the presentation or stay for the full experience! The presentation will last approximately 30 minutes, with the complete event running from 1–3 PM.
