For 40 years the Alberta Craft Council has existed to champion, advocate for, and support a growing and multi-faceted network of craft artists, educators, writers, and curators in the province.

From our grassroots beginnings as a collective of artisan guilds in the late 1970s, to a respected provincial arts service organization, collaboration has always been the key to the success and evolution of the organization and the artists we represent.

In our latest endeavour, the team at the Alberta Craft Council decided to highlight the creativity and the strength of our member community by creating Craft Collaborations - an online auction and fundraising campaign.

This unique fundraiser ensures that the artists receive 50% of the retail cost of their project, and all of Alberta can celebrate the enormous creative talent that this province is rich in. The remainder of the funds raised by the auction will go to the Alberta Craft Council for the continuation of our advocacy and promotion of fine craft in this province and ultimately give back to artists through exhibition and engagement opportunities. Our goal is to raise $20,000.

The call to participate in the project brought together 47 artists from across the province and beyond working with very distinct methods and materials. As the summer passed, craft connections were made as one-of-a-kind and limited edition pieces were created.
Jewellery designed and made collaboratively by Natalie Gerber (Calgary) and Kari Woo (Cochrane).
"Natalie (Gerber) and I have a long-standing admiration for each other's work and we both also deeply respect the work that the Alberta Craft Council undertakes on our behalves, so when the call for this fundraiser came up it was the perfect catalyst to make it happen.

This (Craft Collaboration) has ignited a new direction in my studio that I am looking forward to exploring more.”
