When day comes, we ask ourselves
where we can find light in this never-ending shade…
Quiet isn’t always peace
and we’ve learned that what “just is” isn’t always justice.
And yet, the dawn is ours.
Amanda Gorman
Dear Friends,
The great lesson of our day is to hope. Hope is not some passive lolling-around or some perky but inane naiveté. It is a virtue as powerful as faith and love. A well to be drunk from daily. It is a discipline to be practiced dutifully.
We keep almost losing hope, as the grievous pandemic, suffering, division, loneliness and anxiety – always anxiety -- gnaws at us and even take big bites of us.
The dawn from on high breaks upon us. God’s divine mercy cradles us. It nurtures within us perseverance and the kindness to keep offering mercy to others. We continue to pledge ourselves to plumb the depths of God’s compassion with you. Please take advantage of the opportunities Cranaleith offers in the coming weeks to welcome the light of this Merciful Love. Know that we pray with you, looking to the horizon that emerges anew in God’s light.

There is always light
if only we are brave enough to see it,
if only we are brave enough to be it.

The Science of Evolution: Teilhard's Pathway to God
Saturday January 30
10am-3pm
|
|
Although some people continue to find science and religion irreconcilable and others fail to see any connection between the two, Jesuit paleontologist Pierre Teilhard de Chardin would disagree. After some years of struggle, he found that the science of evolution actually enhanced his incarnational theology and supported his mysticism. During the morning session, we will explore aspects of Teilhard’s synthesis of evolution and incarnation. In the afternoon, we will consider how this synthesis nourished his already profoundly mystical spirit.

Change the Narrative: Young Adults on Anti-racism
Saturday February 6
9:30am-12:30pm
|
|
When the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and Stephon Clarke at the hands of police in the spring of 2020 stirred Americans into greater awareness of racism, the protests that ensued had a new tone. Young people of all races came out as never before and had a different perspective on how America must move forward. Find out what they are seeing and what their vision is.

Reflect from Home
Third Sunday in Ordinary Time, Cycle B
Jonah 3:1-5, 10 and Mark 1:14-20
What might happen if we let God really touch us? Maybe our wounds would heal. Maybe we would be able to see the beauty of every living thing and reverence it all. Maybe we could move passed suffering, alienation and bullying to a lasting and just peace and bounty for everyone. These will be the qualities of the Kingdom of God that Jesus enacts throughout Mark’s gospel. Why do we doubt that this possible, when our doubt prevents this from happening? Read more…
- Recall a time you had trouble accepting the path God was calling you to walk. How did you come around to being open to it?
- Where has God surprised you by appearing this week? Was your response all it could have been?
