“Heaven is a banquet,
and life is a banquet, too, even with a crust,
where there is companionship.”
Dorothy Day
Dear Friends,
This Thanksgiving, we sit at crowded spiritual tables even as our physical tables are subdued. We long for the companionship of loved ones. We connect globally to all who share our isolation and suffering. We are one with our brothers and sisters who bear the wounds of the inequity and hostility among us. We welcome the courageous, generous servants who pour themselves out for our safety.
As we look around at these companions, we are bidden to “feast our eyes,” to see the kindom of God in our midst. In the hope and abundance we share, the simplest gifts of life are suddenly revealed as precious and enduring. The mercies of God are not exhausted. Each morning they are made new, so great is God’s faithfulness.
Cranaleith has prepared a “banquet of opportunities” for the season of Advent. In place of your usual December activities, please consider spending time with God through these programs.
Please know our gratitude for the Cranaleith community: guests, donors, volunteers, presenters. Your belief in this mission nourishes us. Happy Thanksgiving!

Poetry from Home
The Place I Want to Get Back To
by Mary Oliver
The place I want to get back to
is where
in the pinewoods
in the moments between
the darkness
and first light
two deer
came walking down the hill...

Reflect from Home:
Christ the King, Cycle A
Ezek 34:11-12, 15-17; 1Cor 15:20-26, 28; and Mt 25:31-46
As we flounder in our own suffering, renewed by the rise in pandemic infections, this feast invites us to tend the suffering of others. Why? Love rescues us... Read more.
For reflection:
- In prayer, imagine God as the shepherd who saves us. What arises in you?
- Find a way to spend time with someone in need. Afterwards, reflect on how God was present in that person.
