Explore Tutankhamun: "Wonderful Things" From The Pharaoh's Tomb
Ancient Egypt comes to Cranbrook when Tutankhamun: "Wonderful Things From The Pharaoh's Tomb opens to the public on Friday, February 3. More than 120 meticulously created replicas of the pharaoh's sacred and personal possessions including the Canopic shrine, golden throne, and state chariot offer a look at the life and death of the legendary boy king. Members are invited to a special preview event on Thursday, February 2 from 5:30 until 8pm. Reservations are not required.
Love, Sex, & Attraction: It's CIS After Dark
Explore the science behind the mysteries of love and celebrate Valentine's Day during the Institute's third annual Love After Dark event on Thursday, February 9 from 7-10pm. We'll explore the clothing and accessories from around the world that signal desire and commitment, look at the ins and outs of prehistoric sex, and more. Pre-registered guests are $10 for members and $15 for non-members. Walk-ups are $20 per person. Register online or call 248 645.3210.
Happy Birthday Charles Darwin
Cranbrook Institute of Science is celebrating Charles Darwin's 208th birthday on Sunday, February 12. A variety of hands-on activities will center on Darwin's work. Institute geologist and paleontologist John Zawiskie will discuss Darwin's view on extinction, and the Acheson Planetarium will host a special showing of Natural Selection. Darwin's birthday events run from 1 to 4pm and, except for the planetarium program, are free with admission.
Celebrate a Favorite Rite of Spring at the 43rd Annual Maple Festival
The Institute explores the science, history, and importance of maple sugar during Maple Festival on Sunday, March 12, 2017 from noon to 4pm. One of the Institute's most popular annual events, Maple Festival immerses the visitor in all things related to the maple sugaring process. In addition to free planetarium programs, ticket to Tutankhamun: "Wonderful Things" From The Pharaoh's Tomb will be half price during Maple Festival.
Volunteer at the Institute of Science
We are currently seeking volunteer Gallery Guides to staff the Tutankhamun: Wonderful Things from the Pharaoh's Tomb exhibit. Gallery Guides enrich our visitors' experience with hands-on activities, spotlight tours, and information about the exhibit and related science topics.
