Lions and Tigers and T.rex, Oh My!
The Institute of Science opens the vaults for the holiday season to reveal the fascinating and terrifying world of prehistoric and modern day predators December 26-30 from 1-4 pm each day. World of Predators complements the final run of the popular traveling exhibition Megalodon : Largest Shark that Ever Lived. The line-up includes complete mounted skeletal casts of T.rex and its Asian cousin Tarbosaurus, as well as the skulls of Smilodon, the sabre tooth cat that weighed up to 800 pounds, and the monstrous "Hell Pig" Archaeotherium which was almost 4 feet tall. Taxidermy specimens of the predators of today, including the grizzly bear, Arctic wolf, mountain lion, lynx, and African lion, also will be on view.  Related activities make for an unforgettable experience.  World of Predators is free with admission. 
Special Holiday Break Programming in the Planetarium
Mystery of the Xmas Star
The Acheson Planetarium will offer weekday planetarium programs during the Holiday Break, Monday, December 26 through Friday, December 30.  Programs on the hour from 11:30am to 3:30pm include seasonal offerings Let it Snow and the Mystery of the Christmas Star. Regular weekend program times apply.  Preview trailers online.

Megalodon: Largest Shark that Ever Lived

Dive deep below the ocean's surface, and journey back 20 million years to witness the terrifying spectacle in Megalodon - Largest Shark that Ever Lived. This massive beast (6,000 cans of tuna for dinner anyone?) was one of the most powerful predators of all time. Visitors are immersed in the myths, mysteries, and majesty of this now extinct behemoth as they examine the evolution, biology, truths, and even celebrity status of giant prehistoric sharks, and look at the state of shark populations more than two million years after megalodon vanished. Megalodon - Largest Shark that Ever Lived runs through January 3, 2017.

Young Scientists Inspires Creativity
Families with children ages 2 through 7 are invited to explore the wonders of the natural world with other Young Scientists select Thursdays through March 2017.  Each session focuses on a different topic and encourages participants to question, investigate, and learn. Pre-registration is required. Review topics and dates online and get ready to explore.  
Holiday Sales in the Science Shop
Visit the Science Shop and save during the holidays.  Through December 4, Members save 20% off their purchases. During the Holiday Break December 26 to 30 every shopper saves an additional 10% on all Shark Merchandise and is invited to enter to win a plush shark.  Through December 30, all online orders of $20 or more include a free Institute of Science ornament. You do not have to pay admission to visit the shop. Simply stop at the Front Desk when you arrive.  All profits from shop sales benefit the Institute of Science.
