My work is about bringing peace and beauty to the canvas and ultimately into people's homes. My current work is based on the sea. I focus on the peaceful, strong yet delicate nature of my subject. I try to capture some of the magical effects of being seaside. My goal is for the audience to come away from my work just a little more serene in both mind and spirit
To accomplish these goals I study the water and try to focus on certain aspects that bring me this peace. In some work it is found in the unique shapes of the seafoam as it gently rolls in and out. In other paintings I focus on the thin, silky wave as it peaks and just before it crashes.
Sea Lace was particularly meditative to create as I spent hours getting lost in the lacey, intricate layers of seafoam being swept back into the sea.
This work was named after reading this quote by Coco Chanel: "I consider lace to be one of the prettiest imitations ever made of the fantasy of nature"
