Micro-credential (def.):
a high-quality third-party validation of specific skills and training, which while still rigorous, is smaller in scope than the typical professional credential.

Creating a micro-credential for specific leadership skills is new territory, as professions across industries begin to look for new, third-party validation of the specific expertise and training they value. Building on its unique experience creating clean energy micro-credentials, IREC has stepped outside the clean energy space to create its first micro-credential in another arena.

Brian Lydic, IREC Regulatory Engineer
Last month at Intersolar in San Francisco, IREC hosted and participated in a panel discussion on the
State of Smart Inverters: Adoption and Considerations for Implementation
. From this discussion and IREC’s work on these standards, I provide an update and overview on the state of the IEEE 1547 standards and recent developments in California, with an eye to considerations other states would benefit from keeping in mind as they look to capitalize on the potential of smart inverters.

A new study from Vote Solar, GRID Alternatives and the Coalition for Community Solar Access,
The Vision for U.S Community Solar: A Roadmap for 2030
, helps state policymakers, market participants, and advocates address gaps and expand community solar options. GTM Research conducted the study to evaluate the community solar market potential and identify pathways for community solar adoption nationwide by 2030.
Mari Hernandez, IREC regulatory program manager, was on the
Low Income and Equity
Advisory Committee.
IREC was also a reviewer and expert contributor to two new policy roadmaps from the National Governors Association:
the
Energy Roadmap
guides governors attempting to modernize power grids by presenting new regulatory models and incentives that align investment with policy goals. The
Transportation Roadmap
emphasizes the importance of modernizing regulatory frameworks to keep pace with technological advancemements like transportation electrification and self-driving vehicles.
