When your company’s mission is “Creating Housing That Matters,” it is important to understand what motivates the people that live in the housing you create. At Dakota Partners, the housing is affordable, and the residents are first responders, teachers, service industry employees and other hard-working community members whose wages often can’t sustain a market-rate home.
What our residents want is the same as anyone else – a comfortable, warm, inviting home in a vibrant community. They are also increasingly interested in a sustainable, energy-efficient home. This is a primary reason that, in 2016, Dakota Partners began focusing our work on Passive House design and construction.
Established in Germany more than 30 years ago, Passive House Standards are a strict set of energy-efficient building principles that employs super insulation, an airtight building envelope and heat-recovery systems to reduce overall energy consumption. Passive House has become such a vital aspect of our business, in 2021, Affordable Housing News magazine called Dakota Partners “the most active developer of Passive House affordable housing in the industry today.”
We'll continue to share more information and insight into this revolutionary method for delivering ultra-energy-efficient affordable housing. In the meantime, to learn more about Passive House design and Dakota Partners’ legacy of green building, please see the AHN article referenced above here.
