Create Learning Opportunities - Team Up With Us as a Community Partner!

We are partnering with the Early Learning Hub, Oregon Coast STEM Hub, and Family Connections to place 25 Little Libraries in communities around Linn, Benton, and Lincoln counties to foster positive reading practices and promote literacy skills for new and young readers. Each Little Library will come stocked with a diverse selection of STEAM-focused books to encourage young readers to take an interest in STEAM learning from an early age.

This project can’t be done without help from caring library stewards. That’s where you come in. We invite interested individuals and organizations to be our partners and watch over the Little Library in your community, help with maintenance, and maintain a stocked selection of books.

Little Library stewards are invited to visit our makerspace, The MILL, to build their community’s library. Completed Little Libraries will also be made available to those who are not able to build their own.

If you are interested in partnering with us to host a Little Library in your community, please take a moment to fill out our interest form.

Thank you and Farewell, Samuel!

Samuel Villegas is a recent Oregon State University graduate who studied computer science, specifically embedded systems, hardware, and servers. Samuel is inquisitive, a hands-on learner who dives deep into tech subjects he takes a shine to.

For the past several months, Samuel had been volunteering his time at the Hub, using his skills in computer science, data, and electrical engineering to create systems to help our team manage our extensive equipment inventory, as well as consult in the development of programming around engaging tech tools and toys like Arduino and Raspberry Pi.

The work that Samuel has done has been a game changer for MVSCH, a contribution that has added tremendous value and will continue to live on after Samuel’s recent departure.

Samuel is reliable, self-starting, and a true asset as a tech wizard. We highly recommend him to any of our readers who are looking to add a budding computer science pro to their team.

Thank you, Samuel, and best of luck on the path ahead!

Nuestro Futuro Strengthens Ties with Colonia Paz Families

The Mid-Valley STEM-CTE Hub, in partnership with the Greater Albany Public Schools Foundation and Casa Latinos Unidos, created the Nuestro Futuro program in the 2021-2023 biennium to strengthen STEM and career-connected learning opportunities for Latinx students in the Mid-Valley. Since the program’s inception, we have nurtured a strong relationship with Colonia Paz, a Spanish-speaking housing community located in Lebanon, where we have had the opportunity to launch our most recent STEM initiative.

Thanks to recent Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) funding, the Hub supported the launch of the Colonia Paz STEM Library. This resource allows families access to STEM learning materials and resources to bring learning into the home, creating opportunities for deeper comprehension by blending STEM lessons into meaningful cultural and familial settings. By encouraging families to explore and teach STEM together, the STEM Library supports academic growth and promotes intergenerational learning.

We are thankful for the ongoing partnerships that allow us to create culturally responsive opportunities for the Latinx students and families in our region.
