Creating Safe Workplaces in NJ Politics

Gender, the Far-Right, and the Democratic Backsliding

Politics & Gender presents a new virtual special edition, Gender, the Far-Right, and Democratic Backsliding, which brings together articles from the journal that delve into the sometimes surprising ways that gender shapes, and is shaped by, far-right movements. CAWP scholars Kira Sanbonmatsu and Kelly Dittmar serve as associate editors for Politics & Gender. The articles collected in the virtual special edition will be available online free of charge until the end of November. Taken together, the articles in the virtual special edition, “examine what the rise of the far right, in the context of de-democratization, means for existing concepts and theories of gender and politics. They also signal what these developments mean in more tangible terms for women and the LGBTQ+ community around the world.” Read all the articles for free at the Politics & Gender website.

CAWP at APSA

The American Political Science Association annual meeting and exhibition was held last month in Montréal, and CAWP scholars were there sharing and promoting important gender and politics research. CAWP Senior Scholar Kira Sanbonmatsu served as chair and discussant for the panel "Gendered Pathways to Electoral Power and Leadership" and CAWP Scholar and Director of Research Kelly Dittmar presented initial research findings to the panel from a CAWP project on women’s representation and power in state political ecosystems. This ongoing, in-development CAWP research project is expected to be released next year.
