Creating a Culture of Life

Dear Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parishioners,

No doubt, if you follow politics and moral issues in our country, you heard about the Supreme Court decision that overturned Roe v. Wade. While politicians are using this decision to advance agendas on both sides, I prefer that we receive this news prayerfully as a parish.

With that being said, as a parish, we are unequivocally pro-life. This is not limited to abortion but across the board: opposition to euthanasia, violence, war, and capital punishment, while caring for the poor and marginalized among us.

Obviously, with our efforts through the Matthew 25 Center - the amazing work of the Trinity Free Clinic and the Merciful HELP Center - our support of Community Care Day in Anderson, Indiana, as well as international outreach in Haiti, we join the universal Church in being the most charitable institution in the world. Let me say that again: We join the universal Church in being the most charitable institution in the world.

There is a document provided by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) called “Walking With Moms in Need” that serves as a guide for Catholics whose duty is to not only protect innocent life in the womb, but also once a child is born. Our efforts at the Merciful HELP Center and in other church activities have been guided by and continue to be guided by this document. If you feel called to assist these ministries, particularly to children, such as our upcoming Tools for School program, please contact the Merciful HELP Center and/or the Trinity Free Clinic.

While we don’t anticipate any disturbances at our parish during Masses this weekend, we are instituting additional security measures in collaboration with the Carmel Police Department in order to provide a safe worshiping environment.

Please join me in prayer for peace and a greater understanding of God’s gift of human life in all its forms. I will lead a Rosary in the church after the 5:30 p.m. Mass today, Saturday, June 25, to pray for an end to offenses of human life, for conversion of heart, and for peace in our country.

God bless you!
