A Note from our Executive Director

Dear friend,

I recently attended the Stanford Nonprofit Management Institute. The whole conference was stimulating, but what stuck with me the most was the session on Creating a Culture of Compassion and Belonging.

This is so important not only in the workplace, but in our work with children and families. When our students and our families feel a sense of safety, when they feel that their insight, their experiences and their input matter, when they feel seen and valued for who they are, they can take risks, they can grow, that can flourish.

IVYP strives to create a culture of compassion and belonging for our employees, our families and our students. It’s this culture that is the “secret sauce” to our relationships. I wish for a world where every child and every family experiences a sense of belonging in their school and their community. I invite you to join me in creating that environment here on the Central Coast.

Operation School Bell

This month The Assistance League of Santa Barbara ‘s Operation School Bell rang in the new school year positively by bringing clothing, school supplies and more to families at our children’s center! Thank you to The Assistance League of Santa Barbara for helping us kick off this school year!

Building a Sustainable Future

This summer IVYP has been working with both the Edible Campus Program and UCSB Department of Public worms to make our Children's Center campus more sustainable and also teach our students, staff, and educators about vermi-composting. We are having such a great time learning about how to compost and be more sustainable! Thank you again to both of these programs for facilitating these opportunities in the community and for making it such a joy!
Harvest of the Month

Each month we share a healthy, easy and affordable recipe to try that highlights ingredients you can get at our food distribution and weekly farm stand. This month we are highlighting bell peppers! Bell peppers are very high in vitamin C, with a single one providing up to 169% of the recommended daily amount. We love this recipe because it's simple, flavorful and healthy!

Be a diaper champion by sponsoring the cost of diapers for local families. Diapers are one of the most consistent requests from our families at our FRC. Disposable diapers can cost as much as $100 per month per baby so every contribution makes a big difference.
