Dr. Barbara Knust is a veterinarian and epidemiologist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Division of Global Migration and Quarantine. She came to CDC in 2009 via the Epidemic Intelligence Service, and for 9 years worked in the Viral Special Pathogens Branch studying high-hazard viruses, such as Ebola virus, Hantavirus, Crimean Congo Hemorrhagic Fever, and Rift Valley Fever. Dr. Knust is especially interested in infectious diseases that affect both animals and people, the interactions between animals, humans, and the environment that can lead to disease transmission, and the health of refugees and immigrants. Dr. Knust has a veterinary degree from Michigan State University, and a Master's in Public Health from the University of Minnesota.
