July 2020
Creating an Emergency Room Innovation
President & CEO, Clara Reynolds
When I think of the typical July (before COVID-19), picnics, beach time, and fireworks jump to the front of my mind. I was very surprised to learn that the month of July leads the year in the number of admissions to the emergency room or ER! According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), burns and heat related injuries are the major factors leading to ER admissions during July. And if you have ever been to an ER, you know that it can be a long experience where you are possibly exposed to not only a host of airborne illnesses, but traumatic injuries and loss of life. Imagine if you had to use the ER two to three times a year. How would that impact you? What if your chronic medical condition resulted in calling 9-1-1 for ER access two to three times a week?

Providing Passionate Care
Sofia was at a loss of where to turn for assistance for her 2-year-old kid when she called 2-1-1. The child was displaying disengaged behavior, fits of anger, and bed wetting. Once she felt more comfortable with the 2-1-1 contact center specialist, Sofia admitted that the child was struggling with these issues after experiencing a sexual assault from a family member.
