BAC Talk: News for Partners & Friends July 2021
Greetings!

BAC Fighters and Contributing Partners want to have a valuable experience with the Partnership for Food Safety Education.

Over the years I’ve considered my role at PFSE to be creating value for our stakeholders — health and food safety educators, donors, and the people who need food safety information — and everyone concerned with reducing the risk of foodborne illness.

As I begin to wrap up my time with this great organization, I’ve been thinking about the ways we’ve created value over the years.

CONNECTING: Growing & Deepening Connections

PFSE works to create strong ties with and among the individuals and organizations that are committed to reducing the risk of foodborne illness.  The act of convening our Partners, federal agency liaisons, and BAC  Fighters creates value by bringing committed individuals to a space of action in supporting consumer health.

We’ve grown connections by increasing the number of organizations committed to this collaboration by 60% (from 2014 levels) to a very healthy 42 organizations in 2021!

We’ve deepened connections with the BAC Fighter network, and we are committed to sharing stories of the impact an individual health educator can have on their community.

PFSE builds connections through its digital presence with popular websites and social network activity on platforms, such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, and Twitter, reaching more than a million people each year!

BUILDING: Acting on Input & Developments

The Partnership listens to the field and what's going on in the food space.  PFSE then acts on new research and information to address priority food safety concerns of people.

We are committed to creating quality consumer food safety education messaging and tools. PFSE is enhancing systems for user feedback so we can continue to improve our events and download offerings.

We’re also building on ideas to create new resources and tools, such as applying observational research around recipes with safety prompts to new tools and messaging that link home safe handling to the joy of preparing food at home.

LEADING: Leveraging People's Passion to Address Challenges

There are many ways PFSE leverages the passion and commitment of BAC Fighters, Partners, and others to better address educating all people about safe food handling and reducing the risk of foodborne illness.

The passion of BAC Fighter volunteers is behind the development of a new food delivery campaign for people at home! (Make sure you register to attend the campaign reveal next month.)

Through the work of the PFSE Board of Directors, we are recruiting outstanding leaders who are interested in planning a sustainable and effective future for the Partnership.
Collaboration with our federal agency liaisons improves consumer messaging and events. We’re always exploring ways for this collaboration to improve the delivery of messaging and materials to health educators and to families at home.

Connecting, building, and leading is what we do best together. Let’s work on modernizing food safety education through an initial focus on home food delivery.

Join us for the webinar “Food Safety Delivered: New Resources You Need for National Food Safety Education Month” on Wednesday, Aug. 25. We'll launch the Prep Yourself! campaign and give you tools to take immediate action!

With warm regards and see you soon!

Q&A with Summer Intern, Maya!
What college did you attend, and what are you studying now?

Maya: I earned a B.S. in Environmental Science, and an M.S.T. in Adolescence Biology and Special Education from Fordham University. Currently, I am working towards my MBA at CUNY Bernard M. Baruch's Zicklin School of Business.
What will you be working on during your time at PFSE?

Maya: I am working on a few research and business development projects related to food safety in food delivery.

What interests you most about food safety education?

Maya: It's really important that the public is well educated on how to handle food safely, and how their food should be handled if it is prepared outside of the home. If people have this awareness, it can help prevent the spread of foodborne illnesses.

As a former science educator, I know that education is key!
